P
arents and Guardians,
I hope you and your student had a good transition back to school last week. The first week of any semester can be challenging, but I hope things are getting back in a routine and have smoothed out for you. One of my favorite things about the first week of the spring semester is seeing our recent alumni when they come back to LHS while on break from college. I love hearing about their first semester out of high school, and they are usually quick to tell me that their LHS experience has prepared them for where they are now.
If you haven't gotten your tickets to this year's LHS Musical, you will want to hurry up before they are gone. The Lovejoy High School Theatre and Choir students will be performing Grease this Thursday through Saturday (January 17-19) at 7 pm in the LHS Auditorium. More information about Grease as well as a link to purchase tickets can be found below in this email.
As a reminder, next Monday, January 21st, LISD will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Please take a few minutes to review the rest of the information that can be found below in this email. We will continue to update the schedule and information throughout the semester. Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Chris Mayfield Principal Lovejoy High School

New! Lovejoy Offers Group Counseling
Lovejoy is offering group counseling for students for a variety of areas. The groups will meet weekly, during school hours, and will be facilitated by Lovejoy's Social Worker, Noelle Gove, LCSW. The overall goal of the counseling groups is to address student's social/emotional needs that may be impacting their experience and success at school. Groups are being offered, based on need, to every campus in the district, grades K-12.
If you are interested in your student participating in a group, please click here to complete the interest form. Noelle Gove will be in contact with parents regarding further details of the group and to obtain consent for student participation. This form is not a consent for counseling, but rather a survey of interest.

Lovejoy High School Choir and Theatre Present Grease
The Lovejoy High School Theatre and Choir students are rarin' to go with one of the world's most iconic productions, Grease! The show will be presented January 17-19, 2019 at 7:00 PM in the LHS Auditorium.
Beginning its life cycle with an eight-year Broadway run, Grease is an unforgettable trip back to a simpler time of poodle skirts, drive-ins, and T-birds. In the summer of 1959, bad boy Danny Zuko (played by Junior, Bryce Fuller) had a secret romance with the new-in-town, sweet-girl-next-door Sandy Dumbrowski (Senior, Adelyn Maruca). Now, school is back in session, and the pressure of friends and cliques is making their love a bit more complicated. Click here for more information regarding the cast.
Tickets are on sale now! Prices are $15 for students, seniors, and staff and $19 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at the online box office:
Come experience the friendships, romances, and adventures that have made Grease a Broadway knock-out and blockbuster success. We hope to see you "Shakin' at the High School Hop" at the Lovejoy High School Auditorium.
Due to mature high school themes, this show is recommended for middle school students and above.

LHS Wrestling
Our high school men and women wrestled our first district dual on Wednesday night and out of the 20 matches we won 17 of them!
It was great to honor our four seniors, pictured below: Johnny Dorlon, Morgan Elvin, Austen Shelley, and Lilly Musselman.
When hearing about all of their accomplishments-on the mat, in the classroom, and in their other extra-curricular lives, I can't help but think these four really epitomize what it is to be a Lovejoy student-athlete. These four are well-rounded, hard-working, and respectful individuals. We will certainly miss them next year.
Varsity men: Our men's team thumped Newman Smith by a score of 63-12.
Sophomores Daniel Schmidt and Jakob Underwood and juniors Dillon Hebert and Grant Sessions led the team with some key wins.
Junior Grant Sessions works a chicken wing in route to his win against Newman Smith.
Sophomore Jakob Underwood (above) looks to pin another opponent for the Leopards.
Sophomore Daniel Schmidt gets a big win for his team pinning his opponent.
Freshman Luke Thomas works to pin his opponent to start the varsity dual with a win.
Junior Dillon Hebert picks up the first period fall for the Leopards.
On the JV side, all four JV men won their bouts. Freshmen Alec Viel, Will Adams, Philip Joest,
and Brian Kotecki all pinned their opponents to sweep all the bouts for Lovejoy.
Freshmen Will Adams works for his pin on Thursday night.
Freshmen Philip Joest pins his opponent.
Freshmen Brian Kotecki hits the move to take his opponent to his back and get the pin.

Lovejoy Mom Selected for 2019 Boston Marathon
Lovejoy mom, Tracy Sutherlin, is asking for your help in raising money to support the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Team in Training.
"Hi Friends, this is Tracy Sutherlin. I know you've seen me running the streets of Allen, Fairview and Lucas for many years and you know that running is my passion. I'm super excited to announce that I've been selected to be the North Texas Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS) Team In Training Representative at the 2019 Boston Marathon. Not only do I get to fulfill a lifelong dream of running the Boston Marathon, I get to do it for a purpose!
Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer and every 9 minutes someone dies from one. More than 1.3 million people are living with, or are in remission from Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma. Sadly, more than 1/3 of blood cancer patients do not survive 5 years after diagnosis. LLS fund's research provides patients guidance, education & support. LLS also drives advocacy for policies that protect patients access to life saving treatments.
I am running to honor and celebrate two amazing Lovejoy students. Mallory Cass and Austin Bennett. Mallory is a 7th grader at Willow Springs Middle School and was diagnosed with Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in 2014. Austin is a senior at Lovejoy High School and was diagnosed with ALL in 2017. Mallory, Austin and so many others have fought and battled to beat this disease to get across the ultimate finish line of being cancer free!
I've been given the opportunity to raise money for LLS that provides funds to champion the fight in battling this disease. As you think about your charitable giving at the end of this year (or even in 2019) and where it can have the most impact, I ask that you consider helping me in this cause by donating to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
Please help support me as I run to support LLS and those who have been touched by cancer! Because we all have a finish line to cross!"
