Drop-off & Pick-up Update
Dear Parents,
We acknowledge that drop-off and pick-up has been difficult with the revised schedule. We appreciate your patience as we work through this change and are hopeful that speed and efficiency will continue to increase.
The schedule change was motivated by the desire to increase instructional time for our elementary students. Our teachers have given positive feedback about the extended day. They feel that the extra twenty minutes daily is impactful to student learning.
Despite initial challenges, we want to give this new system a few weeks before we make any changes or decisions on how to move forward. Sometimes allowing time for everyone to become familiar with a change can add efficiencies not seen the first few days. Snow and poor weather have also added additional complications and increased time that would have been seen even without the change. However, please know that we are monitoring the situation carefully, and if we don't see improvements, we will be making additional revisions to improve system efficiency.
Sometimes we have families that qualify for special transportation assistance. Please be understanding when these needs arise and be respectful of all vehicles, including busses.
If you use the church parking lot, please make sure to park to walk your students to the crosswalk.
Thank you so much for working with us to implement this change.
Sincerely,
WCA Admin

A 5th Grader's Act of Kindness this Holiday Season...
A very special delivery arrived at the Police Department. 11-year-old Layla dropped off care packages for the homeless. Layla explained that as a young child, she would see homeless people standing on street corners and always wanted to help. She would ask her mom if there was anything they could bring them. Well this year, Layla did just that. In lieu of gifts, Layla asked for supplies to create these care packages that officers could hand out - and so we will, Layla. Each package contained hand warmers, peanut butter or lemon cookies (cognizant of nut allergies), cheese crackers, bottled water and toothbrushes. What an outstanding act of kindness from one selfless 11-year-old girl.

Nurse Notes
Happy New Year and welcome back to school! Welcome to cold and flu season as well.
Here are a couple of reminders to help keep you and your family germ free this flu and cold season.
GET VACCINATED
-
The CDC (Center for Disease Control) recommends everyone over 6 months of age get vaccinated for the flu.
-
-
The flu vaccine protects against 4 common flu strains.
-
You may still get the flu after vaccination, however the vaccine will help reduce the symptoms, as well as reduce flu related hospitalizations.
TAKE PREVENTATIVE ACTIONS
-
Avoid close contact with sick people.
-
WASH, WASH, WASH your hands.
-
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw away after use, and immediately wash your hands.
-
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs are easily spread this way.
-
Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects in your home that may be contaminated with germs.
COLD VS FLU
-
Flu and the common cold are both respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses.
-
Because these two types of illnesses have similar symptoms, it can be difficult to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone.
-
In general, flu is worse than the common cold, and symptoms are more common and intense.
-
Colds are usually milder than flu.
-
People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose.
For more information on the flu, please go HERE.
