VIDEO: Cordova High students build budgeting smarts in real-life simulation
Cordova High students recently experienced a dose of real-life learning thanks to the school's ongoing partnership with SAFE Credit Union
Led by Cordova High's Business Technology Academy , the latest "Reality Fair" was a simulation in which students received profiles with specific incomes, family sizes, and debt loads. During the simulation, students were asked to make sometimes difficult decisions on balancing income and expenses.
The exercise is designed to let teenagers better understand the financial challenges they will face as adults and provides important practical financial education they can use in the real world.

IN THE NEWS: Cordova Gardens 2nd grade students raise salmon in class
Cordova Gardens second grade students hatched, raised and released Chinook salmon!
Cheers to teachers Beate Vuilleumier and Angie Limpus who took extra time on weekends to be trained and certified by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife in order to conduct this education program.
Students studied the science of fish, their life cycles, measured their growth, drew diagrams and wrote letters to their fish.

This is just another example of the comprehensive STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) approach to education that teachers use at Cordova Gardens!

PHOTOS: Folsom High student artwork displayed in downtown offices
Rainforth Grau Architects' professionals have designed some of the most iconic school buildings in Folsom Cordova and across the region. When the firm needed artwork for its new office in downtown Sacramento, they looked to Folsom High School teacher Jeff Carter's amazing, award-winning students to feature prominently throughout its Capitol Mall headquarters.
"Our staff was so impressed with the quality of the work that we chose to display (the student artwork) where we would normally feature our (firm's) projects," said Associate Architect Rick Parks.

Cordova engineering students move up from state finalists to state winners!
Cordova High School engineering students just found out that they are state winners in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest!

Students devised a plan to serve the homeless population by envisioning a vending machine that would exchange trash for personal hygiene products.

Their teacher, Faith Caplan, broke the news to them on Tuesday as they started class - and we were there to capture the moment.

Best of luck to the team as they prepare for next steps; a video presentation of their project, and a chance to win the grand prize of a $100,000 prize package. Bravo students!
