First Climb Training and Clinic with Kinetic in New Jersey!
|
|
Kinetic Prosthetics
of West Chester, PA is sponsoring a First Climb Training and Clinic series at Elite Climbing Gym in Maple Shade, NJ. The first training was held on April 8, 2018 and saw over 20 climb volunteers join us for adaptive training and belaying techniques. Training was led by Andrew Chao, President of
Peak Potential
and assisted by Tommy Lyon, First Climb Instructor and the owners of
Elite Climb
. After belaying training and safety instruction, volunteers were also given education specific to the physically challenged population including social interaction and terminology. The volunteers were then joined by over 20 adaptive climbers, both children and adults, to work together to improve their climbing experience.

Lawall O&P Hosts Largest Ever First Stride Training & Clinic
|

Dr. Clemens gave a three hour presentation focusing on an introduction to gait, followed by a two hour hands on train the train First Stride Clinic with individuals with lower limb amputations.

Mabio Costa Named First Swim Director
|
|
Mabio Costa of Orlando, Florida has been named the OPAF First Swim Director. Mabio has been a First Swim Instructor since 2011, helping to grow the program nationally with numerous First Swim clinics across the country.
Mabio is a two time World Champion Triathlete, winning first for his birth country of Brazil and following his move to the United States, won again after September 11 as a way to give back to his new chosen country. Mabio is a congenital below the knee amputee and works as a prosthetic technician with
Prosthetic Orthotic Associates in Orlando
. He and his wife, Rita have two daughters, Olivia and Julia
Mabio has been the First Swim instructor at the Amputee Coalition National Conferences since 2013.

Dale Yasukawa Scholarship for NUPOC Students

The OPAF Dale Yasukawa Scholarship Fund is now accepting applications from Northwestern University students currently enrolled in the O & P masters degree program.
The $1,000.00 scholarship is intended to assist NUPOC students attend their local
chapter or society meeting of the Academy.
