January 2019
MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN'S OFFICE
Happy New Year to all!

CVPA helped usher Dean Alexander into retirement with the appropriate pomp and circumstance last month, and we hope he is enjoying every minute of his new routine. We certainly notice his absence and miss him here. In the meantime, I am very excited to have been appointed the interim dean through this semester as we transition to new leadership in the College, and I look forward to a productive and busy spring 2019.

The second half of this year's UCLS season is starting soon and with a big bang! The legendary Herbie Hancock comes to the UNCG Auditorium on February 12, the mesmerizing Mark Morris Dance Company on February 27, and the enchanting Andra McDonald on March 9. Tickets are still available but going fast, so don't miss these extraordinary opportunities. In addition, Carrie Mae Weems will also be on campus as a Falk Visiting Artist, co-sponsored by UCLS, on February 7 (speaking at the Elliot University Center Auditorium).

Spring classes began this week, with faculty and staff ready to welcome our new and returning students. This is an exciting time of year, especially for our seniors who are preparing to graduate in May. In the meantime, our faculty and alumni continue to impress with their myriad accomplishments. The newsletter tries to highlight some of these accomplishments, but please do reach out to us with news about yourself, a colleague or a classmate if we've missed it.

There is always exciting news at CVPA!

Best wishes for a safe and productive 2019.

Lawrence Jenkens
Interim Dean
