Prescribed burns scheduled for Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve
Monday, Jan. 21 through all of February, you may see smoke if you live near Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve. Plano Parks and Recreation and Plano Fire-Rescue are rejuvenating some of the blackland prairie ecosystem in this area with a series of controlled burns. The burns are expected to take place in areas west of Jupiter Road. Days may vary depending on weather conditions. Prescribed burns give new life to the prairie. It also offers firefighters the training they need to fight wildfires in the region.

Controlled burns will be on weekdays between noon and 6 p.m., when both firefighters and park personnel can supervise them. The preserve remains open during the burns except in the immediate areas and trails being burned.
