MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES:
Online help for students and families
The outbreak of COVID-19 can result in stress, especially for students who may be struggling to process fear and anxiety related to the virus.  FVSD's Support Services team of School Counselors and School Psychologists has compiled information on our site which may be helpful for students and families.  Included are resources for talking to students about COVID-19 and coping with stress.  Moreover, links and information on FVSD's mental health and wellness resources, including CareSolace, Outreach Concern and our middle school counselors, are available.  Lastly, there are a number of community healthy partners and emergency resources included for our families.  For all of our mental health and wellness resources, please visit our site here.

Happy Monday!

As we begin our sixth full week of the school year, we want to share a tremendous thank you to our staff, families and community for their overwhelming efforts to support our students.  Whether a student is virtual or participating in our in-person hybrid program, I see our entire system working together, and it truly is inspirational and heartwarming!

Important Safety Reminders
With students and their families beginning to settle into their respective programs, we want to continue to remind everyone how critical it is to follow the safety guidelines established in our Reopening Schools Plan.  We must all be vigilant in these safety practices:
  • Wear a face covering while on campus
  • Socially distance at least 6ft
  • Wash your hands regularly and use hand sanitizer when you do not have access to a sink
  • Screen yourself and your child(ren) at home each morning and do not send them to school if he/she is sick
  • If anyone in your home is being tested for COVID-19 because of symptoms or is being tested because he/she was exposed to someone with COVID-19, do not come to school and call your school's office
Thank you for everything you continue to do to support safety, and teaching and learning!!

Kindly,

Mark Johnson, Ed.D.
Superintendent

HIGHLIGHT: Wellness Wednesdays Continue to Share Mental Health Resources with Students and Families
Wellness Wednesdays

Each week throughout the school year, our counselors share valuable resources for mental health and wellness with our students and families through Wellness Wednesdays.  Recently, our counselors introduced affirmations, short statements that can be a useful tool designed to handle difficult situations and negative thoughts.  As the new school year continues, there can be a variety of emotions for our students throughout the day.  Tools like affirmations can be valuable to students who may feel overwhelmed.  In addition, through Wellness Wednesdays, our counselors shared an action calendar for the month.  Created by Action for Happiness, this calendar empowers students with daily prompts to encourage an optimistic October.  This school year looks so different, and yet with tools to support our students' mental health, our counselors remind us that "We can do hard things!"  It's this kind of love and support that is so much a part of The FVSD Family!  For the library of Wellness Wednesdays newsletters, and additional mental health and wellness resources, please visit our site
UPDATE: COVID-19 Dashboard
COVID Dashboard

Fountain Valley School District and our schools are committed to providing accurate and transparent information regarding COVID-19 cases on our campuses.  The FVSD COVID-19 Dashboard represents the number of current confirmed COVID-19 cases among District students and staff on our campuses (in-person instruction only).  This data is updated regularly and as cases are confirmed.  In the event of a positive case, school communities are notified directly by their principals or school staff.
It continues to take a concerted effort to keep our students, staff and families safe.  In addition to the health and safety measures taken on campus, we encourage families to be proactive and to reinforce the importance of hand washing, physical distancing and face coverings to limit the spread of the coronavirus.  We appreciate our families support and partnership as we continue our focus on a safe, on-campus learning environment for our students and staff.  For access to our COVID-19 Dashboard and all of our School Reopening Updates, please visit our site

SPOTLIGHT: Fountain Valley Schools Foundation Seeks Support
Support FVSF

Over the past five years, the Marc Ecker Golf Classic has grown into the Fountain Valley Schools Foundation's premier fundraiser. This year, the golf classic has been postponed. Yet the needs of our students, especially now, are greater than ever!  Through fundraising events like the Golf Classic, the Fountain Valley Schools Foundation supports STEAM programs for all of our District's students.  And while we may not be able to get together in person this year, the Foundation has asked those that can to continue to support our students with a donation in honor of the Golf Classic.  Those interested and able to support can do so through the Fountain Valley Schools Foundation's website.  We continue to be so grateful to the Foundation for their generous support of all of our students!
