We're back! Show season is upon us and the very first rated trail rides are only a few days away. The first show is in the books! The Missouri Extravaganza was held last weekend at the NEC in Lake St. Louis, MO and I heard that it went well! We do have several more coming up soon so best wishes to all in their horse endeavors in 2019! We have lots to offer so please plan on joining us here in Region XI and enjoying yourself!

We also had some encouraging news about the progress on the coliseum at the IL State Fairgrounds!
Joe Khayyat, Non-Fair Events Manager wrote to Dave Waggoner with a summary of the construction plans for the Coliseum. The contractors "stand by their commitment to complete the project by July 20." He also states that there may still be some noise "or distraction, but we should be well beyond the demolition phase as well as the installation of the new roof at that point. They should be done with their heavy lifting and the use of most of their heavy equipment by then." He goes on to write, "I think you'll find the impact to be minimal...By the time your show comes around though, we should have worked out most of the kinks...sailing toward the finish line." We do know that parking by the Food-a-Rama will be affected as a construction trailer will be parked there until the job is done.

AHA Honours Peter Cameron
On February 4th of this year a notable contingent of AHA officials and judges presented Peter Cameron as the inaugural recipient of the AHA Peter Cameron Award! Present at Peter & Velma Cameron's home in St. Catharines, Ontario were AHA President Nancy Harvey, AHA Judges & Stewards Commissioner Stan Morey, and friends of Peter Cameron including Janet Henderson Region 18 Director and AHA Judge, Corky Sutton AHA Judge and Brian Ferguson who initiated this
perpetual annual award of a Judy Nordquist bronze. Peter had judged over 750 horse shows
spanning a number of decades and breeds of horses-his favourite was and always will be the

Arabian horse and judging young exhibitors!
This new AHA Peter Cameron Award will be presented to a currently licensed Arabian judge or USEF Category 2 Steward who demonstrates the high standards and value that Peter displayed and lived by during his long and distinguished career as an Arabian judge.

After the initial presentation of the perpetual AHA Peter Cameron Award in 2019, nominations will be accepted yearly by the J&S Commissioner Office starting October 1 and closing November 30. A panel of individuals will review the nominees and make the final recommendation to the J&S Commissioner.

Nominee for the AHA Peter Cameron Award:
  • Must be a current USEF/EC "R" Arabian division judge or USEF Category 2 Steward
  • Must be currently on the AHA list of approved judges or stewards
  • Consideration given to years of service, not only judging and stewarding
  • Nominee who adheres to the standards of honest and fair judging/stewarding, displaying a high level of personal and professional ethics and fairness in all aspects of judging or stewarding. Professionalism extending to demeanor towards competition management, volunteers and exhibitors.
  • Consideration given to the nominee's willingness to mentor potential officials.
  • Consideration given to involvement with use and promotion of the Arabian horse and involvement with AHA local and/or regional member organizations.

  •
Peter received the first trophy personally and will retain possession of this award. A re

plica will be owned by AHA and awarded to the chosen nominee.
AHA, AHAEC, Region 18 and exhibitors world-wide are indebted to Peter for his years of involvement with the Arabian horse through his judging and of his mentoring learner/apprentice judges.

Thank you to the individuals who promoted this award to AHA, and heartfelt thanks from all of us to you Peter Cameron!
