How to Practice Series: Adult Guardianship
Co-sponsored by the Young Lawyers Division
Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Attendees will learn prerequisites to adult guardianship, the flow of an adult guardianship case, the role of third party professionals, the role of the guardian and the rights of the protected person. The program includes a mock interview with the alleged incapacitated person and a mock guardianship hearing to help attendees get the hands-on basic skills they can use right away.

Volunteers Needed for Rio Rancho Wills for Heroes
The YLD is seeking volunteer attorneys, paralegals and law students to help provide free wills for its Wills for Heroes event for Rio Rancho first-responders from 9 a.m.-noon, Feb. 24, at Loma Colorado Main Library, in Rio Rancho. Proposed Cannabis Law Section
Interested in becoming a part of history and joining a proposed brand-new State Bar Cannabis Law Section? The Cannabis Law Section shall strive to be the preeminent legal section dedicated to addressing and solving all cannabis law issues as they involve the New Mexico medical cannabis program, cannabis legislation, the interplay between the State Bar of New Mexico and the cannabis industry, litigation issues concerning cannabis, and any other issue concerning current and future laws, rules and regulation relating to cannabis. YLD UNMSOL Summer Fellowship Open Now
The Young Lawyers Division offers two $3,000 summer fellowships to UNM School of Law students who are interested in working in public interest law or the government sector. The fellowship awards are intended to provide the opportunity for law students to work for public interest entities or in the government sector in an unpaid position.View the full requirements online. Free CLE: Balancing the Scales
Attend dinner and a screening of the documentary "Balancing the Scales" followed by a moderated discussion with New Mexico attorney Elizabeth Phillips from 5-7:30 p.m., March 1, at the UNM School of Law. The documentary delves into the challenges women lawyers have faced historically and still face today. This program has been approved by MCLE for 2.0 EP, sponsored by the UNM School of Law. Dinner is provided by the Committee on Women and the Legal Profession and the UNMSOL Women's Law Caucus. The New Mexico Women's Bar Association seeks nominations for its Support for Women In the Law award, to be awarded to a law firm or other organization actively engaged in promoting a culture of success for women attorneys in New Mexico.
