Continuing Competence Newsletter
Volume II, Summer Issue June 2018
Each social work regulatory board has final authority in accepting any continuing education.
ASWB's Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program approves providers of social work continuing education. ASWB approves social work continuing education courses for the state of New Jersey. These approvals are separate processes.

Courses offered by ACE providers will not be accepted in New Jersey unless those courses have also been approved through the New Jersey CE Course Approval Program.
Reminder! New cosponsor  policy
A new cosponsor policy will go into effect June 1, 2019, for all current ACE providers. Although the policy change does not take effect until next year, it will be effective on that date for all ACE providers regardless of when their current approval period ends. We will send all ACE providers the new policy details in an email in late July or early August, and the CE directors of ACE providers currently approved to cosponsor will be required to sign an acknowledgment of understanding of the new policy by the end of August 2018. Please make sure your primary contact for ACE is current so that you receive this important email.
Be sure to read "A Primer on primary contacts" for important information about complying with program standards!

Developing ethics courses for social workers
Most jurisdictions require that social workers take a certain number of hours of coursework in ethics to meet continuing education requirements...

A primer on primary contacts
ASWB requires that ACE providers and New Jersey CE Course Approval Program providers have a person serving as a primary contact.

Policy Reminder: Submit your application materials electronically
BOth ACE and New Jersey Course Approval Program applications and supplemental items must be saved and submitted as separate electronic documents.

Virtual or augmented reality courses
Many universities have begun to use  virtual or augmented reality to help deliver some courses. While reactions and opinions may vary about whether these new modalities are, in fact, valuable tools...
