New Facilitator, Laurie Archbold
When Two Passions Come Together

What would life be like if we all had serious training in Compassionate Listening BEFORE we got married, had kids and picked a career path? What if we were able to navigate all of our adult life events with this magical resource that allows us to listen and speak from our hearts, to be compassionate, and to be present to our lives?
This beautiful vision captures the essence of one of our youngest new facilitators, Laurie Archbold, millennial, 33 years old. Throughout our interview, Laurie demonstrated her remarkable ability to integrate her learnings and embody the CL practices in her daily life - from her courageous conversations with her partner to her skill in navigating conflict and challenges. And the best part is that she is highly motivated to bring these gifts to others.
Inspired by her experience on the November, 2015 Journey to Israel and Palestine, Laurie and nine other delegation members continued their training with CLP founder Leah Green for one year in regular phone sessions. She then committed to the CL Facilitator path with Leah as her mentor.

Facilitating your own practice group is a core part of the mentorship program and Laurie had a unique experience. She held a Compassionate Listening class for a large group of young adults attending the year-long Anake Program at the well-known Wilderness Awareness School in Duvall, Washington. In addition to their regular program, fostering leadership through nature and building community, the group met regularly over the course of six months for Compassionate Listening practice sessions. Facilitating a practice group of this kind within the context of an immersion program helped strengthen relationships, build communication skills, resolve conflicts and promote healing. Laurie was thrilled with the experience and looks forward to creating Compassionate Listening programs within the wilderness context in the future - a perfect new marriage for CL!
Laurie’s plans don’t stop there. She is excited about sharing Compassionate Listening with four groups of people: couples, people with differing political views, millennials who have been raised on social media and robbed of connection, and passion-driven individuals who can have a hard time listening because they are so single pointed in their focus and their beliefs.
Floored by her clarity and passion, my interview with Laurie gave me hope at a time when hope is hard to hold on to. Thank you, Laurie for reminding us that facilitating connection through deep listening is often times the perfect medicine. Your passion and dedication are blessings for the world. ~ Liza Pascal

Our First Facilitator in the UK: Sally Wright
Following the Heart to Happiness
|

Sally Wright was living a successful corporate life as a professional in the world of Organizational Development. Looking for ways to support leaders in making effective decisions during times of change and uncertainty, she stumbled upon an interview with Gene Knudsen Hoffman, Compassionate Listening pioneer, in Gregg Levoy’s book,
Callings
. She did a short google search, found the Compassionate Listening Project, and before she knew it she was off on the Journey to Israel and Palestine.
Experiencing and witnessing the effectiveness of Compassionate Listening techniques not just for herself and the other participants, but for those who the group listened to (and their families!), Sally took a massive leap. She left the corporate world and never looked back. She continued with the post-trip practice group, and along with Laurie and others from her trip, she pursued the path to Facilitator under the mentorship of Leah Green.

During her training, Sally was honored to be sponsored and hosted by St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace in London, a “maker of peacemakers” that inspires and equips people from all backgrounds to become peace-builders in their own lives and communities. She offered a Compassionate Listening practice group that met over ten sessions in their gorgeous peace tent pictured above. The tent was the perfect venue to hold a rich and diverse group, including participants from Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Somalia. The group had religious diversity as well with Jewish, Christian and Muslim members.
Two of Sally's participants were inspired to take the very next available phone course in CL with Leah Green this past winter, marking the beginning of a CL community in London. One is a board member of the Forgiveness Project, an organization that collects and shares stories of forgiveness to build understanding, encourage reflection and enable people to reconcile with pain and move forward from the trauma in their own lives. Through this connection, Sally is now a Trustee for the Forgiveness Project and hopes to be able to bring Compassionate Listening to prisoners and youth.
Sally has already held her first one-day CL workshop and St. Ethelburga's is hosting her second workshop, coming up in October. What is clear and bursting at the seams when speaking with Sally, is that happiness and fulfillment are available in abundance to those who have the courage to follow their hearts. Sally, we cannot wait to hear where your heart leads you next, and we are honored to have you as our first CL facilitator in the U.K.! ~ Liza Pascal

We're growing and we need your help!
There is a strong demand for Compassionate Listening in these chaotic and conflictual times. With 10 new facilitators coming on board this year and more to come, we're doing our best to meet the need. We're about to hire a part-time Managing Director to strengthen our work and guide our growth. We are looking for champions from our wonderful community to help us increase our impact and make CL accessible to younger people and to other marginalized communities. We welcome your donation and we thank you for your support!
