City of North Richland Hills 2018 Year in Review

TEXRail Service Starts on Saturday

Following 2 years of construction, the City of North Richland Hills celebrated the new TEXRail service with a ribbon cutting on Dec. 31.  TEXRail is a new 27-mile commuter rail line that extends from downtown Fort Worth, across northeast Tarrant County, through North Richland Hills, and Grapevine, and into DFW International Airport's Terminal B. Service officially begins this Saturday, January 5 and  rides will be free through Janunary 31. There are 2 TEXRail stations in NRH, one off Smithfield Road, just north of Mid-Cities Boulevard, and the other off Iron Horse Boulevard just north of Loop 820. Visit  Trinity Metro's website  for the schedule, station maps and more information. Watch the ribbon cutting ceremony here:

Quiet Zones & Railroad Crossing Safety

With start of the new TEXRail service, new Quiet Zones are going into effect for all 10 railroad crossings in North Richland Hills. In a Quiet Zone, the train engineer will only sound the horn when it is necessary to do so for safety reasons, such as a vehicle or person on the tracks.  Because train horns will no longer routinely sound at crossings, it is important that people obey the barriers and stay alert whenever they are crossing the tracks.
  • Always yield the right of way to the train. The train cannot yield to you.
  • Never stop your car on train tracks. Before driving across the tracks, be sure there's room to get completely across.
  • Never drive around lowered crossing arms, no matter what. You won't know if a train is coming and it could be the last thing you do.
  • Remember train tracks are private property. Walking or playing on the tracks is trespassing and dangerous.
Review more railroad crossing safety information on our website and share the information with your family, neighbors and friends.

Christmas Tree Recycling

North Richland Hills residents can place Christmas trees curbside for recycling pickup on Saturday, January 5 or Saturday, January 12, 2019. (Trees placed curbside on other garbage collection days will be put in the landfill and not recycled.) Trees should be placed on the curb no later than 7 a.m. In order for trees to be recycled they must be free of tinsel, ornaments, bags, plastic and stands. Flocked trees are not accepted for mulching but can placed at your curb for regular trash collection.

Christmas trees can also be dropped off through January 6 at Green Valley Park at 7701 Smithfield Road, or at the Dan Echols Center at 6801 Glenview Drive. Please place trees in the designated dumpsters. Mulch from the recycled trees will be available for residents to pick up at the two drop-off locations January 7 through 20 while supplies last. Please bring your own container and shovel to load the mulch.  Questions may be directed to Neighborhood Services at 817-427-6651.
