Three or more eggs a week increase your risk of heart disease and early death, study says

A study published Friday,
3/15/19 in the medical journal
JAMA delivers bad news for egg lovers. According the researchers, among 29,615 adults pooled from 6 prospective cohort studies in the United States with a median follow-up of 17.5 years, each additional 300 mg of dietary cholesterol consumed per day was significantly associated with higher risk of incident CVD and all-cause mortality, and each additional half an egg consumed per day was significantly associated with higher risk of incident CVD and all-cause mortality. The researchers adjusted for the fact that egg consumption may be associated with unhealthy behaviors, such as low physical activity, smoking, or an unhealthy diet.

Among US adults, higher consumption of dietary cholesterol or eggs was significantly associated with higher risk of incident CVD and all-cause mortality in a dose-response manner, the authors conclude. These results should be considered in the development of dietary guidelines and updates.

Trump admin proposes massive cuts to Medicaid, Medicare

President Donald Trump proposed slashing
Medicare funding by $845 billion over the next decade in a budget blueprint by increasing audits of
Medicare Advantage payments, changing hospital reimbursement rates and reducing "fraud and abuse" in the system. The annual
White House budget, released Monday <
3.11.18>, also seeks to move more than $1 trillion in
Medicaid spending to a system of block grants allowing states more control in allocating the funds, in addition to cutting another $1.5 trillion over the next 10 years. The 2020 plan also calls for a nationwide Medicaid work requirement for low-income adults to be eligible for coverage.

The budget is sure to go nowhere in
Congress, as
Democrats control the
House and the document includes politically toxic ideas in cutting Medicare, a largely popular program among its users, according to Ms. Pifer. It will however, give Democrats fodder during the next election cycle.

Hospital Compare website reports on quality measures for more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide.
