Jessurun: salary cut politicians will affect civil servants

Dear Reader

The typical St. Maarten expression " He's a mother's child " comes to mind when we read the plea letter of Theo Heyliger's mother asking for her son to be returned home.

The question is indeed will They Heyliger be returned to St. Maarten so that he can at least spend his birthday on his island close to home and close to his family?

On a related topic, chairman of the Central Voting Bureau Jason Rogers gave quite an elucidation on PJD2 on Sunday during a morning interview with Wendell Moore.

The Constitution of St. Maarten has been on the mind of many these past weeks. People have even begun to call it the 'Cut and Paste' Constitution.

"Attorney Rogers outlined a few very important articles of the Constitution and the Electoral Reform Ordinance. They both go hand in hand. With all the issues with MPs that are constantly surfacing, one should certainly have a read and try to understand that Constitution is not 100% complete. That applies to other laws and regulations also."

The above is taken from a Facebook post by one of our avid readers and the question raised is "When are we going to do what is right for Sint Maarten?"

Her question to the above mentioned and that of others also is: "Who were the members of the Constitutional Committee?"

Another avid reader posed the same question directly to us asking who the members of the Constitutional Committee were and where are they now that the Constitution clearly needs revising and updating.

Another pertinent question our critical reader also posed was "Who agreed to having a CFT overseeing our finances?"

Questions, questions, questions.....

We will search in our archives for the answers and bring you a report on our findings. Of course, we welcome any contributions from our readers and historians. Maybe we will hold a contest who can correctly name all the members and where they are now and what they are doing.

In the meantime, do have a great week!
