Opportunities for Individual Artists

As part of the Year of Chicago Theatre, DCASE and Definition Theatre Company are thrilled to announce a new Introduction to Playwriting program for emerging theatre creatives. Lead instructors Marsha Estell and Isaac Gomez will teach the fundamentals of writing plays focusing on Principles of Dramatic Structure, world building, and character development with the completion of a 10-minute play as the final project for this course.

 

This seven week program will take place at the Green Line Performing Arts Center starting on Saturday, April 6, 2019. The class will meet from 1-4pm for seven consecutive Saturdays with the final presentation on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

 

There are no prerequisites to apply, though space is limited. Selected applicants will be required to attend every course.

Opportunities for Educators
Application deadline is Friday, April 12 at 5pm CST
How would you transform a vacant or underused space in your community? The BP Student Ideas Competition at the Chicago Architecture Biennial invites Chicagoland students in grades 7-12 to develop creative solutions to this question. Along the way, they'll learn about what it takes to build shared spaces and help shape their neighborhood. The competition welcomes submissions that explore ideas about architecture and the built environment through a variety of disciplines including design, the humanities, STEM fields, as well as visual and performing arts. The competition is Free To Enter and features cash prizes up to $500.

Opportunities for Arts Organizations and Businesses
Application deadline is Friday, March 22, at 5pm CST
As part of the 41st Annual Chicago Jazz Festival in 2019, local music venues and jazz-presenting organizations are invited to apply to DCASE for support to offer free, public programs during August 23-28, 2019. The goal is to encourage collaboration within the Jazz community to build excitement and promote Chicago as a destination for Jazz. As part of the 2019 Year of Chicago Theatre, this special designation DCASE is seeking proposals from Chicago's diverse theatre and performance community - including street theatre, stage combat, musical performance, improv and immersive theatre - to present original works at Millennium Park. Companies will have the opportunity to develop site- -specific theatre performances that engage the unique architecture, design, public art and Cloud Gate Plaza as the ultimate stage. Between July--October 2019, DCASE will commission up to 12 theatre companies to complete a one week residency in Millennium Park and produce a minimum of three performances that are free and open to the public. Be a part of Chicago City Markets, including Chicago's longest running farmers market on Daley Plaza, the historic Maxwell Street Market and community markets in neighborhoods across Chicago.

The City of Chicago, Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events seeks proposals from qualified firms to provide online ticket sales and related services for Taste of Chicago.

As part of the 2019 Year of Chicago Theatre, organizations are invited to apply for microgrants to support projects which increase diversity and access in Chicago's theatre sector, with a focus on Chicago's South and West sides. Funded projects might include productions, performances or initiatives taking place in underrepresented neighborhoods, devising theatrical works in collaboration with Chicago residents, and building the capacity of culturally specific organizations. Applications accepted on a rolling basis
The DCASE ArtsSpace Program offers access to space at DCASE venues for free public programs organized by Chicago's cultural organizations. Applications for programs at the Chicago Cultural Center are reviewed on a rolling basis and must be submitted at least 120 days prior to the event date. Selected organizations will have their venue rental fee waived, but will incur operational costs for their programs. For more information and the application, visit ChicagoCulturalGrants.org.
 
DCASE produces Chicago's largest free festivals including Taste of Chicago, Chicago Blues Festival and Chicago Jazz Festival plus a variety of other festivals and events throughout the year.
