Imagine Church Devotional

"The World Comes Together"

A man had come home from an extra busy day's work to meet his excited son wanting to hang out and do something together.  The father had an idea.  He looked around the house to find a picture of the world.  The picture was of the globe on a sky background.

He brought it to his son, and they talked about our world.  They talked about many of the problems our world faces and pointed out the country they lived in.  Then he said, "How about we cut this picture into many pieces and you can put our world back together?"

The son thought that would be fun, so the man cut up the picture and dumped the pieces on the floor and said to his son, "Now put our world back together."  Thinking it would take the child a long time, he sat back on the sofa to relax.

Five minutes later his son showed up and said happily, "Here it is."

The dad was surprised and asked him, "How did you put the world together so quickly?"  The son replied, "It was easy.  On the back of the picture is a picture of Jesus, and when you look at Jesus, the world comes together."

When we keep our eyes upon Jesus, our world begins to take shape.  When our focus is upon him, we grow spiritually, develop character, find meaning, and eventually, our whole world comes together.

In the name of the One who can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,

Worship This Week

Imagine Church begins a new year of worship, service, ministry, and mission -- and it all starts at 10:00 a.m. this Sunday, January 5!  The Landing Life Group has given birth to the idea of our January series which takes a look at some of the hard questions of faith:  how do you reconcile God and human suffering?  If God is good, is God also all-powerful?  Are there really such things as demons and evil spirits?  It's a provocative and thought-provoking series called, "Ever Wonder Why?"  Don't miss part 1, on the first Sunday of a new year!
Church-Wide Session #2 with Architect on Sunday

You're invited to remain after church briefly this Sunday, January 5, for the second of two sessions with the architect as we continue our master site plan design process!  We'll have a quick lunch (we promise we won't run out of food this time!) and our Imagine Kids will have their own activity.  Right after lunch, our youth and adults will move back into the chapel to hear a quick report from the four groups and the answers to the questions from December 8.  The session will last about 45 minutes and will be inspiring and informative!  You are invited to remain!
Glorious Christmas Eve!

We will remember the Imagine Kids' live nativity and the glorious music from our Christmas Eve worship which concluded a marvelous Advent and Christmas season at Imagine Church.  The chapel and balcony were full -- maybe an image of things to come? -- and we had lots of guests.  We are grateful to Haylie Kokoski, Paula Price and Jill Turner for coordinating the kids' nativity and the costumes.  Perhaps two services next Christmas Eve?
Meet to Take Down Christmas Decorations Saturday

We need your help!  If you're available Saturday morning, January 4, please come to Gordon-Conwell at 10:00 a.m. to help us take down the Christmas trees, the nativity and other decorations, and help us prepare the chapel for worship on Sunday.  It won't take long, and we invite you to join us!  The three Christmas trees will be stored in the barn on the church property.
Thanks, Safety & Security Team!

We don't thank them enough, but on Christmas Eve it took several of the guys from our Safety & Security Team to cover the building and parking lot with the large crowd that attended worship.  They keep a watchful eye to keep us safe each Sunday of the year.  Express your thanks when you have a chance to Craig Galeota (Chair), Andy Brown, Jimmy Ferguson, Nick Jones, David Nichols, Russ Partin, Steve Phillips, and Scott Tadlock.  Randy Edwards served much of 2019, too.
Musicians and Vocalists Needed!
Imagine Church is growing! We are seeking musicians and vocalists to join our current praise team. We are especially looking for keyboard and guitar players, and vocalists with the ability to sing harmonies.  If you or anyone you know is interested in auditioning, or for more details, please contact Jennifer Tankersley at 865-300-8480 or find her before or after church on Sunday mornings!
Team Meetings Upcoming

The Personnel Team will meet briefly this Sunday, January 5, at 1:00 p.m. (or after the session with the architect concludes) in Room 127.

The Leadership Team will have a dinner meeting on Sunday, January 12, at 6:00 p.m. at the home of Justin and Jennifer Tankersley, 2034 Brightflower Lane (Handsmill), Lake Wylie.
Prayers and Praises

Randy Edwards was in the hospital over Christmas receiving treatment for an infection.  Continue to keep Randy and Martha in your prayers.

Bob Wujciak's surgery was cancelled because they found more cancer in the abdominal wall and lower stomach.  He was told that all that can be done now is chemo in hopes of controlling the cancer.  If the cancer doesn't respond, the formula will be changed and started again; they may also try immunotherapy or even a clinical trial.  Your prayers are much appreciated for both Bob and Linda.

Tammie Callahan (Tyra Jones' sister-in-law) is undergoing cancer treatment from her home in Ellenboro, NC.

Please continue to pray for the following:
  • Lisa Neuffer (it was wonderful to have Lisa with us for worship on Christmas Eve!)
  • Jerry Brownlee (father of Lydia Smith)
  • Vaughn Dunn
