Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler visits Ray-Pec
Meeting with District leaders covers variety of topics

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler
visited the Ray-Pec School District this morning to meet with School Board members and District leaders.
Hartzler was eager to hear about programs and successes in the District, and how schools are helping to prepare students for college and careers.
Board President Ruth Johnson, Board Vice President Paul Coffman, and Board Member Susan Edmonsond were present, along with members of the Superintendent's Cabinet.
The conversation was wide-ranging -- touching on issues as varied as state standards, assessments, mental health, support for the teaching profession, and the opioid crisis and other substance abuse issues.
Hartzler, a Republican from Harrisonville, is serving her fifth term representing Missouri's 4th District. Today's visit was one stop among several planned meetings.

Ray-Pec 8th grader wins Cass County Spelling Bee

He's headed to Washington, D.C.!
Ray-Pec East Middle School eighth grader and District spelling champion Miles Sellami won the Cass County Spelling Bee on March 13 to qualify for the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Five spellers participated in the county Spelling Bee. In the 15th round, Miles correctly spelled "wringing" to win. The runner-up was sixth-grader Audrey Coffey from Harrisonville. Rounds 8 to 14 were a competition between Miles and Audrey.
The other competitors were Leo Zheng, fifth grade, Belton School District; Sofia Dardour, fifth grade, Midway School District; and Sadie Lowry, third grade, Pleasant Hill School District.
As winner, Miles and a chaperone receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The prize includes airfare, lodging, and meals. He also received a trophy and $50 Visa gift card from UMB Bank. Read more

Spring sports season begins tonight
Cheer for the Panthers, Huskies, and Wolves!
After starting the season with practices in winter-like weather, spring sports competition begins tonight with the Ray-Pec girls soccer team hosting Lee's Summit at Panther Stadium. Junior Varsity begins at 5 p.m., and the varsity game is at 6:30 p.m.
Over Spring Break, the boys golf and tennis teams, the baseball team, track and field, and girls soccer all have contests.
Middle school track meets will begin the week after Spring Break. Check out the
