DATE: January 7, 2019

California Film and TV Tax Credit Program 2.0 Upcoming Application Window: February 4-8, 2019
The California Film Commission will hold its next television application period on February 4 - 8, 2019. Only Recurring or Relocating TV Series may apply this February.  Credit Allocation Letters (CALs) will be issued on March 11, 2019 - all submitted budgets MUST exclude any costs prior to that date. Recurring TV Series may submit applications without pick up orders but CALs will only be issued to those projects with pick up orders.

Submitted Recurring Television Series will be ranked according to their priority and jobs ratios during each allocation period.*

Please remember that the applications for additional TV episodes for a current TV series in the program should be indicated by adding ".5" to the season, e.g., "TV SERIES TITLE 1.5".  Once accepted, the back order episodes will receive a new queue number, Credit Allocation Letter, and require a separate Agreed Upon Procedures.

For historical reference only, below are the lowest adjusted jobs ratios for the projects that received a reservation of credits in the last two TV application periods:

  • Television Projects (TV Series, Pilots, MOWs, Miniseries):  3.73480 (May); 4.24657 (Nov)
  • Relocating Television Series:  3.24107 (May);  None (Nov)

Please bear in mind that the jobs ratio numbers quoted above are based on applications received during prior television category allocation periods and should not be relied upon as a guaranteed jobs ratio minimum in future application periods. Applicants are measured against their specific applicant pool and as such, each jobs ratio minimum is specific to those types of productions during a specific allocation period.

Projects which plan on prepping and/or commencing principal photography for their upcoming season or back order after the end of the 2018-19 fiscal year are advised to submit applications during the first TV application period for FY 2019-20 which is scheduled on May 20 - 24, 2019 and Credit Allocation Letters will be issued on July 1, 2019.

In order to anticipate the demand for Relocating TV Series tax credits, please let us know the series title, estimated number of episodes, and the approximate amount of tax credits you will be requesting.

Thank you for your continued participation in the California Film & Television Tax Credit Program 2.0; we appreciate your business.

* Program 2.0 mandates the CFC to give first priority for available credits to recurring projects that have previously received a credit allocation.  Priority is determined by the year of the original application with the oldest projects having 1st priority or, for applications beginning in January 2016, priority is determined by the fiscal year of the original CAL.
