Assisting local Chinese Children's Welfare Institutes by providing pre and post-surgical care to abandoned Chinese orphan babies born with surgically correctable deformities. Shanghai Healing Home provides a home-like environment that meets not only the babies' physical needs but also their emotional and developmental needs.

我们致力于协助中国当地的福利机构发展, 为需要进行手术矫正畸形的弃婴提供术前及术后看护。新生命之家不断努力为宝宝们营造家一般的成长环境, 在满足他们的物质需求的同时, 也尽力满足他们的情感需求和社会需求。

The Shanghai Healing Home is funded 100% by the generous donations of our sponsors and one-time donors. We are very grateful to accept monetary or in-kind donations of any amount and form. A list of in-kind needs can be found on our website. Below are suggested sponsorship plans if you or a group of your friends would like to fully sponsor the cost of one baby's daily expenses.

How Can I Help?

Many people are asking us lately, "what can I do to help?". Right now, SHH is in need of new Baby Sponsorships. To date, we have a total of 15 fully sponsored babies and another 4 needing sponsorship. Baby sponsorships are a huge part of being able to pay the monthly expenses and care for the children. Even before we can pay for their medical needs and surgeries, we need to be able to pay for their daily needs in the home.

最近有很多人问我们，"我能帮到你们什么？"而现在，上海医治之家的宝贝们非常需要大家的帮助。目前为止，我们有15个全额赞助的孩子，还有4个孩子需要大家资助。在这个资助中，有很大一部分是给孩子提供每个月需要的费用和关怀。所以在我们支付孩子的医疗费用之前，我们需先提供给孩子日常用品。

New Orientation Schedule

We have a new schedule for our orientation meetings. We now have more orientation dates to choose from and visitors select their date based on their language preference, whether it is Chinese or English!

Orientation meetings will be conducted in Chinese ONLY:

Every Tuesday at 9:30am

2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 9:30am

Orientation meetings will be conducted in English ONLY:

Every Wednesday at 9:30am

2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month at 9:30am

Orientation attendance is required for all first time visitors.

Our little Shang XR is 22 months old. His adoption file is now ready and he is waiting to be matched to his Forever Family. He came to SHH at 2 months old with a small heart problem that has not needed surgery. He was really tiny so we thought he was premature. As he grew older, we noticed that even though he eats well he was not growing on target for his age leading the doctors to believe that he has some form of dwarfism. We also learned that he could not hear very well so now he wears hearing aids.

Volunteer highlights

志愿者活动

The past couple of months our kids have been enjoying a beautiful new playground and grassy field to play in on sunny days. This spring the weather has actually been quite nice so the kids have been spending most of their days outside exploring. We want to say thank you so much to the volunteer groups that helped in renovating the backyard!

在过去的几个月中，我们的孩子们一直在阳光明媚的日子里享受美丽的新操场和草地。今年春天，天气实际上相当不错，所以孩子们大部分时间都在室外探索。我们非常感谢帮助翻新后院的志愿者组织！

Preschool Corner

学前角

In a preschool class, one of the best ways for preschool kids to learn is through playtime. So each class time we spend lots of time learning through play. Some days we are playing with legos or play dough or puzzles but the kids' favorite playtime is dress-up time. The kids love getting to put on various dress-up clothes and pretend to be a doctor, waitress, policeman, astronaut, etc. It is a lot of fun but also a great way to help with their development and learning.

在学前班中，学前儿童学习的最佳方式之一就是通过游戏。所以每个上课时间我们都花费大量的时间通过游戏来学习。有些日子，我们正在玩乐高、玩面团或拼图，但孩子们最喜欢的游戏时间是装扮时间。孩子们喜欢穿上各种装扮服装，假装成为医生，女服务员，警察，宇航员等。这很有趣，但也是帮助他们发展和学习的好方法。

Volunteers are welcome to come out and assist during the week with the classes. This past month one of our volunteers, April, has been leading the preschool classes. Update on Hua YZ

Hua YZ的最新进展

Our little Hua YZ has been growing so much and recently his health has been good. Since he has been doing so well the doctors were able to perform the surgery to reverse his colostomy. He is currently in the hospital recovering from this surgery and the doctors say he is doing really well. Even though he just had surgery he is still smiling and making silly faces at his caregiver. What a difference from a year ago when he was so sick!

We are so thankful for everyone who has helped and continues to help our little Hua YZ through your prayers and financial support. Thank you for being a blessing to our little Hua YZ!

Medical Need

Our little Liang XY was born with club feet. He has already had surgery to help correct his feet but we just found out that he is going to need 4 more sets of casts for his feet. The total cost is expected to be around 8,000RMB (approximately $786 USD). Please consider helping our little Liang XY by donating towards this medical expense.

Thank you to all the volunteers who regularly come out to help with our weekday baby development classes! We greatly appreciate your dedication to helping with our babies' development. We could use some more volunteers who would be willing come out regularly and help, especially with baby signing time and music class. The baby classes we offer are: baby signing time on Mondays at 9:30am, music class on Tuesdays at 2:30pm, and art class on Fridays at 9:30am. The classes last about 30-60 minutes. If you might be interested in helping with one of these classes then please email our Volunteer Coordinator, Jessica, at [email protected] for more information.
