York Catholic Fund
York Catholic has continued to offer our students a competitive, top notch education for over 90 years. While tuition helps to keep our school running on a daily basis, it is the York Catholic Fund that provides the resources we need to further support our students, teachers, programs, and school facilities. And so, as we begin this academic year, we ask you to consider a donation toward our 2020-2021 appeal. Every gift, whatever the amount, counts and is truly valued. Please click on the Donate button below to use our online donation page. Thank you for caring and giving!

Tax Break for You Benefits Our Students
Here's some news that is sure to change how you view paying your state and federal taxes each year!

If you pay personal state income taxes, you now have the opportunity (whether filing individually or jointly) to choose how these taxes are spent each year by joining a Special Purpose Entity (SPE). SPEs are based on tax liability, not income, therefore each taxpayer's situation will differ. An individual or couple filing jointly must have a state tax liability of $3,500 or more to participate. To see if you qualify for 2020, you can find your PA tax liability on Form PA-40 Line 12 of your 2019 tax return.

You could receive at least a 10% deduction on your personal federal taxes each year, so why not have your personal state income taxes serve as tuition assistance funds, allowing more students to thrive at York Catholic High School?
If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please follow these steps:

All SPE funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so NOW is the time to submit your Joinder Agreement for the 2020 Tax Year!

For more information about this easy tax donation, please contact Katie Seufert, York Catholic Principal, at [email protected].

Lunch Accounts
The Lunchtime link is now available for you to deposit lunch money into your student's account. Please access the link by clicking here or clicking the Lunchtime Account link located on the homepage of the York Catholic website (www.yorkcatholic.org) in the lower right-hand corner under Quick Links.  The Lunchtime Point of Sale purchasing system for student lunches is also be accessible through the Vision online parent portal

To ensure we are using this system to its potential, everyone is required to use their Lunchtime account log in to pay for his or her lunch meals.  The following policies are in place regarding Lunchtime Accounts and Balances.  We encourage parents to sign up for email notification when their Lunchtime account balances are getting low.
  • Checks and/or cash are not accepted in the cafeteria for food purchases during lunch periods. It is the responsibility of the student to submit a check (not cash) in a sealed envelope (clearly labeled with his/her name, grade, and student ID number) and place it in the Lunchtime box located at the Attendance table in the main lobby upon entrance to the building for the student's account to be credited. The minimum check amount is $10. Funds may not be available for 24 hours.
  • It is the student and parent's responsibility to monitor the Lunchtime account online for balance information and retain a positive balance at all times.
  • If a student has a lunchtime balance at $0.00 or below, they will only have the option to purchase a lunch consisting of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, fruit, and 8 oz. drink for $3.00.
  • No refunds will be given during the school year. Seniors will be issued a refund on accounts with a balance of $5 or more after graduation unless they have a sibling enrolled at YC in which case the balance will be transferred to the sibling for the next school year. All underclassmen accounts will roll-over to the next school year.
  • Report cards and Vision access will be held at the end of each quarter if Lunchtime balances are not current.
If you need assistance accessing your Lunchtime account, please contact Deb Gingerich at [email protected] or 717-846-8871 x319.
No School Monday

School will not be in session Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.
School Calendar Change
We have been fortunate to be approved by College Board to administer the SAT exam at York Catholic for YC seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The date, October 14, coincides with the same date our juniors are scheduled to take the PSAT.  Because of this, we have a few school calendar adjustments for October.

Friday, October 9, will now be a full school day instead of a half day.

Monday, October 12, we will still be closed.

Wednesday, October 14, will be a full day for faculty and staff and no school for grades 7-10.  All 11th graders will have a half-day in the morning to take the PSAT (not optional), and 12th graders who choose will attend for a half-day in the morning to take the SAT (optional, however, registration is required; see below).
SAT at YC

Seniors wishing to take the SAT can do it at York Catholic on Wednesday, October 14.  Two test options are available.  Please click here for more information and the form to complete and return by Monday, September 14.  Questions can be directed to Kathy Hand, Director of Studies, at [email protected] or 717-846-8871 x313.
Schedule Changes
Class Schedule
Any request for a course change must be accompanied by a written parental request, teacher approval (as originally needed), and a $25.00 Late Roster Change Fee.  Since the Main Roster is built according to the original registration of students, we cannot guarantee admission to particular classes.  For incoming new students, if an error has been made in placement, teachers will initiate the needed change and no fee will be assessed.  Students requesting schedule changes must do so during the Drop Add period, which ends September 18, and no changes will be made after that date.  Level changes, however, will be considered into the first quarter at the discretion of the subject teacher for any student who has been inaccurately placed in a course.

Virtual & In-Class Learning
Our Drop Add grace period applies to the virtual and in-person option as well.  If a student opted virtual and wishes to return to in-school instruction, he or she must do so before September 18.  The same applies if a student is reporting to school but wishes to change to the virtual option.   Parents must email Kathy Hand at [email protected] to request a change.
Dress Code Change

Turtlenecks are no longer a part of the proper dress code.  Please reference page 17 and 18 in the Student Handbook for acceptable options of what is permitted to be worn.
Opening Mass & Ring Ceremony
Our new chaplain, Father Kuchinski, pastor of St. Mary's, will celebrate Opening Mass with our students, faculty, and staff Wednesday, September 9. During the Mass, Father will also bless the rings of the senior class of 2021. The seniors will receive their rings as symbolism of the leadership roles they now carry among the student body. While parents have been invited to join us at Mass in the past, due to COVID restrictions, we are unable to have guests in the building at this time. For your convenience, a recording of the Ring Ceremony will be posted on the York Catholic YouTube channel.
Back to School Night
York Catholic's Back to School Night will be held Thursday, September 10, from 6-9 PM. Parents will be COVID screened upon arrival just like their children are each morning, and will go to their child's homeroom.  We will begin with a "setting the stage" discussion for parents regarding ongoing dialogues on talking about race with your children, led by Educational Mentoring and Consulting Services (EMCS) from 6-7 PM. This will be followed by our "meet the teachers" portion of the evening from 7-9 PM where parents will follow their child's class schedule and learn about class expectations. Mask protocol and social distancing will be followed.  We look forward to seeing all of our parents!
Spirit Shirt Friday

Tomorrow, September 4, is Spirit Shirt Friday.  Students may wear their favorite YC spirit shirt in place of their uniform shirt. Students still must wear the standard uniform pants or skirt.  Future Spirit Shirt Fridays require a $1 fee to support Mini-THON, but tomorrow's Spirit Shirt Friday is free for all so we can celebrate our school pride and our successful "Return to Learn"!
Military Info Share
Junior and Senior Parents:  The school is obligated to give names, addresses, and phone numbers of our juniors and seniors to the armed services upon their request, unless parents opt out of having the information shared.  If you do not want us to share your student's information with the military, please contact Mrs. Sheila Gick at 717-846-8871 x317 or [email protected] indicating your wishes by September 11.
Junior High Theatre
There will be an informational meeting and audition workshop for anyone interested in auditioning for the cast of the Junior High Play on September 8, 9, and 10, from 3-4:30 PM in the auditorium. You only need to attend one of those time slots and registration is not required. If you cannot make any of those times, please contact Ms. Pantano at [email protected] for more information. Auditions will be held September 14 and 15 from 3-5 PM with Callbacks September 16 from 3-5 PM.  Registration is required for auditions.  Virtual students wishing to participate should contact Ms. Pantano for the Google Classroom information links for workshops and auditions.

No experience is needed. There are many speaking and singing roles.  You do not need to sing to participate.  The audition workshops will give you the tools you need for a successful audition.

The recorded performances will be shown virtually on Saturday, November 14, and Sunday, November 15.

The school Health & Safety Plan will be in place for all workshops, auditions, callbacks, and rehearsals.
Fall Sports Practices Start Tomorrow
All senior high Fall sports teams begin practice tomorrow, Friday, September 4.  For exact practice times, contact the head coach or Josh Cross at
[email protected] or 717-846-8871 x330.

Student-athletes and parents should click here for the required form to be given to the coach on the first day of practice.  Temperatures should be taken prior to arriving for workouts and must be reported to YC personnel upon arrival for record keeping.  Masks and filled water bottles are required for each workout session.  Student and staff safety is of utmost importance.  We appreciate your cooperation with this protocol.
