Student research in spotlight next week
The 49th Annual Student Research Conference will be held March 23 at WKU's Downing Student Union.
Student-centered applied research at WKU will be in the spotlight next week leading up to the 49th Annual Student Research Conference .

More than 340 students will present their research March 23 in a daylong event at the Downing Student Union. The WKU Student Research Conference will showcase scholarly activities of graduate, undergraduate and Gatton Academy students in all disciplines. All student projects are mentored by WKU faculty and staff members.

The event will showcase 285 research and creative projects -- 160 posters and exhibits and 135 oral presentations.

The conference will feature a keynote address by Dr. Johanna Kovarik on Lights in the Darkness: Stories from the Underground at 10 a.m. in the Downing Student Union, room 3020. Dr. Kovarik, who has served for the past seven years as the National Cave and Karst Program Lead for the U.S. Forest Service, earned her master’s in Geoscience at WKU.

Other events next week include the following:

A presentation on Undergraduate Research as a High Impact Educational Practice: What the Research Tells Us About Research by C. Edward Watson of American Association of Colleges and Universities at 4 p.m. Monday (March 18) at Gary Ransdell Hall Auditorium.

Gatton Academy Research Showcase and WKU Faculty/Staff Appreciation Event from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday (March 21) at Florence Schneider Hall, room 204.

Student research spotlights will be featured each day on WKU social media.

Open forum today for candidate for Gordon Ford College of Business dean
Four candidates for Dean of Gordon Ford College of Business are participating in on-campus interviews this week. The fourth is Dr. Chris Shook, the Sprunk & Burnham Endowed Dean for the University of Montana College of Business in Missoula . An open forum begins at 3 p.m. today in Grise Hall, room 526.
Good luck to Qatar Debates team
Good luck to WKU Arabic instructor and Qatar Debates coach Lhousseine Guerwane and Arabic majors Madi Crawford, Keightley Dudgeon, Kassidy Orrender and Noah A. Stevens who are in Qatar to compete in the fifth International Universities Debating Championship.
Spotlight: Folklife Program
The Kentucky Folklife Program and WKU's Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology will be part of the Kentucky Crafted Market this weekend in Lexington. Students will participate in Woven Treasures basket making area and the KFP will present the Homer Ledford Award.
The Governor Louie B. Nunn Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame has a new inductee. Nancy Hall Duncan spent decades teaching subjects like home economics and science, all while writing grants to get other programs for students off the ground. WKU’s Amy Bingham has more in this week's View from the Hill .
WKU CCSJ will host a Deliberative Dialogue on LGBTQIA+ Fairness: How Should Communities Balance Individual vs Religious Liberties? at 4 p.m. March 21 at DSU Nite Class. Register Here
