$2.6 Million Community Park Soccer Complex Renovation Begins
Work is underway on a $2.6 million renovation of Community Park to provide state-of-the-art soccer facilities complete with specially designed synthetic turf to keep fields cooler for the more than 200,000 Moreno Valley residents and visiting athletes who compete at the park each year.

Due to its prime location, Community Park remains one of the City’s most popular sports facilities. The park’s four soccer fields are in use more than 360 days out of the year, with athletes logging more than 2,800 hours annually.

Moreno Valley Community Park is located at 13380 Frederick Street.

The soccer complex renovation will transform all four fields with professional grade synthetic turf, replacing synthetic turf which has been in place for more than a decade. The new state-of-the-art turf will feature a cool fill rubber system to create a first-class experience for competitors and spectators alike.

Users have been accommodated at other fields across the City during construction. The renovation is scheduled for completion by July.

This project also achieves several priorities included in the City’s Momentum MoVal strategic plan, including creating a positive environment for the development of Moreno Valley’s future, promoting community pride, and ensuring that needed public facilities are constructed and maintained.

The community will be invited to celebrate the project’s completion at a Grand Re-Opening Ceremony this summer.

Please contact Moreno Valley’s Parks & Community Services at 951-413-3280 with any questions regarding this project.
Moreno Valley Named 2017 Tree City USA
Moreno Valley has been named a 2017 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, honoring the City’s commitment to community forestry practices.

Moreno Valley is pleased to join more than 3,400 communities in the United States that have earned the Tree City USA designation.

Trees promote healthier communities by decreasing stress levels and improve moods, provide environmental benefits by filtering the air we breathe, moderate the climate, and provide habitat for wildlife. Trees also reduce energy use by providing natural cooling and they increase property values.

Cities earn the Tree City USA designation by meeting these requirements:

  • Establish a Tree Department
  • Adopt a tree care ordinance
  • Establish a community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita
  • Conduct an Arbor Day observance and adopt a Proclamation

By achieving the Tree City USA designation Moreno Valley successfully fulfills one of the objectives outlined in Momentum MoVal, the City’s Strategic Plan. The designation demonstrates the City’s commitment to beautification, community engagement, and quality of life for all of its community members.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.

For additional information on Moreno Valley’s Tree City USA designation, contact Candace Cassel, Special Districts Division Manager, at 951.413.3480, or email at candacec@moval.org.

Moreno Valley Police Explorer Graduates From Marine Corps Boot Camp
Moreno Valley Police Chief David Kurylowicz attended the graduation of one of his former police explorers from Marine Corps boot camp in San Diego on February 23.

Former Moreno Valley Police Explorer Arkel Brown was a member of the Moreno Valley Explorers Post 882 for approximately a year before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps.

The Explorer Post program provides young people between the ages of 14 and 21 a hands-on look at what a career in law enforcement is really like. Explorers also learn discipline and receive mentoring to help them succeed in life, whether that includes a career in law enforcement or another career path.

Private First Class Brown will spend a very short time at home with his family and friends before reporting to his first duty station, Camp Pendleton.

The City of Moreno Valley and his law enforcement family wish PFC Brown fair winds and calm seas in this new chapter of his life.
