Assisting local Chinese Children's Welfare Institutes by providing pre and post-surgical care to abandoned Chinese orphan babies born with surgically correctable deformities. Shanghai Healing Home provides a home-like environment that meets not only the babies' physical needs but also their emotional and developmental needs.

Reminder To All Visitors At SHH

Winter is almost here and with it comes the dreaded cold and flu season. The staff at SHH would like to remind individuals and groups to be especially careful when visiting the Home during the cold and flu season. Please double check before coming that day that no one in your group is sick...even if they are not running a fever but have a cough, congestion/runny nose, or sore throat we would ask that they not visit the Home because if one of our kids gets sick they will all get sick. For some of our kids if they get sick their immune system is already weak because of their medical problem so they will end up getting admitted to the hospital or ICU. Lots of handwashing is especially important to protect our babies and yourself from infection. There also may be some extra restrictions for playing with the children when you visit depending on the health condition of our children at that time so please check with us on the day you visit. Thank you all so much for your understanding and cooperation with these guidelines!

We are happy to announce that we raised all of the money for Liang XY's casts! Thank you to everyone who gave to help with this need. A new medical need has come up this month with little Liang XY. He got sick and had to be admitted to the hospital with pneumonia  for a couple of days but thankfully he is doing better and now back at the Home with us.His hospital costs totaled 10723.97 RMB (approximately $1623 USD)
. So far we have already raised 1,500 RMB (approximately $227 USD). Please consider helping us with this additional medical cost and contact us at [email protected].

Wow! I think this is a record month for adoptions...3 of our little ones left this month to join their Forever Family!!! Even though we really miss our little ones when they leave we are really excited to know they are going to loving families.

Volunteer Help Needed

Volunteers are always asking us for specific ways that they can help us with our kids at SHH. Right now we are in need of a couple of volunteers who would be willing to come tutor our little Luo SY. When Luo SY first arrived at the Home we asked his caregiver how he was doing and she said, "Pretty good except he doesn't listen to anything I say." Upon further investigation we learned that he was deaf. The doctors recommended that if he had surgery to have a cochlear implant placed then this might allow him to be able to hear so we raised money and he was able to have the surgery. Since his surgery he has been going to speech therapy to learn what the sounds he is hearing actually mean and to learn how to speak. Until he can get to the point that he can communicate verbally, we want to give him a way to communicate through the use of American Sign Language (ASL). He already knows some basic signs but we need some volunteers who would be able to come spend more time tutoring him in sign language. We already have some ALS resources that can be used. Truck Stop Grill Fundraiser

In November,SHH had a Thanksgiving Fundraiser at Truck Stop Grill. It was a fun night with delicious food, good music, and great company! Our kids had a lot of fun getting to spend time with everyone who came out for the event. We at SHH want to say thank you to all who gave to support the Home through this fundraiser!
