Port connects local students to career opportunities
Tyee High School students in the Highline School District recently made a trip to Sea-Tac Airport to learn about careers in skilled trades at the Port.
Through a series of hands on activities, students were introduced to careers in field crew, the paint shop, carpentry, and autoshop and bus maintenance. The event, hosted by Port of Seattle Aviation Maintenance, was one of a variety of career awareness events the Port organizes throughout the year to help introduce students from nearby schools to career possibilities.
The Port of Seattle also supports career development of local high school and college students through its paid internship program. The Port’s internship program provides meaningful work and learning experiences, and allows students to try out new careers, develop skills and networks and benefit from mentoring. Applications for the program are accepted through the end of April.
