Saturday, March 23rd is a celebration of the traditional Polynesian and Hawaiian Heritage crop 'Ulu, also known as breadfruit. Whether you want to grow it, harvest it, prepare it, or consume it - there is something for everyone and all things breadfruit during the 'Ulu Palooza on the 23rd.

Farmers' Market Event

You may recognize their beautiful trees, but do you know how to prepare the 'ulu fruit for sweet or savory dishes? The Hawai'i 'Ulu Coop and the   Same Canoe Local Food Challenge are partnering to present traditional and innovative 'ulu food preparation and products at the Keauhou Farmers' Market in Kona on Saturday, March 23rd, 9:30am.

 Presentation with historic and contemporary breadfruit talk story, recipe share, and product tastings starts at 9:30am, followed by product sales of Coop's frozen 'ulu and fresh, delicious 'Ulu Hummus and 'Ulu Chocolate Mousse available after 10:30am.

The Keauhou Farmers' Market is open on Saturdays from 7:45 to noon with an abundance of fresh produce and food products.

'Ulu Pruning Workshop 

For farmers and gardeners

8:30-12:30 followed by a potluck lunch.

In North Kohala, a workshop on a private farm assists backyard gardeners and farmers in learning to prune and care for these beautiful, dramatic broad leafed trees with their valuable and versatile fruits. 

Workshop is presented by the Hawai'i 'Ulu Coop.

Canoe Crop Culinary Class and Farm Tour

T his is a great opportunity to tour a beautiful organic farm and then step into the kitchen to learn to prepare taro / kalo and breadfruit / 'ulu dishes using local vegetables.

Master Organic Farmer Una Greenaway is opening her farm to registered participants for a farm to table enriching experience. Tour and Culinary Class is 10am-2pm.
