Dear Friends of PHAB,

As we start the new year, we want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support of public health department accreditation. We are so excited to be starting 2019 with 244 accredited health departments, plus one accredited statewide integrated local public health department system. The past year heralded the attainment of some important milestones as we celebrated the accreditation of the second Tribal health department in the United States, as well as the accreditation of the first U.S. Army local installation public health department. We are pleased to report that as of November 20, 2018, 73 percent of the U.S. population is now served by a health department that meets PHAB's rigorous national standards for delivering quality programs and services to its community.

These achievements would not have been possible without the support of the hundreds of individuals who have helped PHAB become the national standard for public health in the United States. We thank our loyal supporters who help PHAB in so many different capacities, such as serving on PHAB's Board of Directors, committees, expert panels, think tanks, work groups, and as applicants and site visitors. We also want to express our thanks to our funding partners and to the many national public health organizations and stakeholders who have helped enhance PHAB's work along the way.

We look forward to 2019 with great anticipation as we move forward with the launch of an accreditation program with Standards and Measures for National Accreditation of State/Territorial Vital Records/Health Statistics Units; the release of specifically customized accreditation Standards and Measures for Army Public Health Departments; and the transition of the Public Health Quality Improvement Exchange (PHQIX) to PHAB. We also look forward to starting our fourth year of work under the Public Health National Center for Innovations (PHNCI), which aims to foster the alignment and spread of innovations in public health practice. And keep your eye on PHAB's website, which is in the process of being updated to make it more user-friendly than ever!

As always, we invite the public health field to continue along this journey with PHAB as we work together to improve and protect the health of communities by advancing -- and ultimately transforming -- the quality and performance of the nation's state, Tribal, local, and territorial public health departments.

The entire PHAB staff joins in wishing you a new year filled with peace, hope, and good health!

Best Wishes,
