Child Abuse Prevention Month

T his month is a time to ACKNOWLEDGE the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect and to promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families. Throughout the rest of the year, ACT on the prevention tools shared by The Georgia Center for Child Advocacy.

April 28th is Drug Take Back Day
...but every day is a Take Back Day in Dawson County. Prescription drug take-back boxes provide a place where unused prescription drugs can be safely disposed. These permanent boxes prevent prescription and over-the-counter medications from getting into the hands of children. Take your unused or expired medication TODAY and DISPOSE of them properly at the take back dropbox located in the lobby of the Dawson County Sheriff's Office.

All proceeds to support our work to prevent child abuse and neglect in Dawson County. Tickets are $10.00 each/per person and are available in advance or the day of the event .

Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) is partnering with Quality Care for Children (QCC) to help parents find summer camps and child care programs for the summer. Parents can verify their camps by visiting qualityrated.org to see if it is either licensed or exempt from licensing.
If parents prefer, they can speak with a summer camp referral specialist by calling 1-877-ALL-GA-KIDS (877-255-4254) Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. There are early hours beginning at 7 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and extended hours until 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays

Backpack Buddies
 
Eric Watson from New Life Church, located at 1505 Highway 53 East in Dawsonville, is the organizer for "Backpack Buddies" in Dawson County. Backpacks are filled every Wednesday for Thursday distribution through the school year, with edible items to help stave off the hunger that food insecure children experience over the weekends. Reaching these kids during the summer months proves a challenge. If you or your organization who would be willing to help with backpack distribution this summer, that would be incredible!
