With the Vernal Equinox rapidly approaching, signs of spring are reappearing all around us. Temperatures are gradually increasing, people are emerging from their homes and taking walks along the Promenade, and last weekend we turned our clocks forward one-hour to coincide with the start of Daylight Savings Time.

From The Members of City Council...
During the March 12 City Council meeting, Ordinances 1632 and 1633 were introduced with first reading:
--Ordinance 1632, which was proposed by Councilman Bill Kehner, was written to prohibit vehicles from driving through flooded streets and creating wakes that can damage garage doors, fences and other private and public property.
--Ordinance 1633 was written to allow the City to change certain traffic control signals from their regular red-yellow-green patterns to flashing patterns, which would eliminate unnecessary delays for motorists during the low traffic periods of the off-season.

New Sign System Is Operational,
Text & Email Flood Alerts Being Planned
The Sea Isle City Police Department recently installed new yellow warning signs in flood-prone areas around the City. The solar-powered flashing signs, which read “Road Flooded When Flashing” indicate that flood water is entering a particular area and that vehicles should not be parked on those streets.
Additionally, the SICPD is finalizing plans for a new Email & Text Message Flood Alert System that will work in harmony with the new Flood Warning Sign System. Information on how to register for Email & Text Message Flood Alerts will be forthcoming.
As always, it is NEVER safe to drive through flooded streets. Turn around, don’t drown!

On Saturday, March 16, Mayor Leonard Desiderio and his family will host Sea Isle City’s 29th Annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade starting at 3:30 p.m. along Landis Avenue, 83rd to 63rd Street.

Best Dressed Contest & Celebration
Prior to the start of this year’s Saint Patrick's Parade, the public is invited to participate in a free Best Dressed Competition at 2:00 p.m. inside Kix-McNutley’s on 63rd Street, where prizes will be given to the “Best Dressed Irish Individual” and “Best Dressed Irish Group.” All of the contestants in the Best Dressed Competition (win or lose) will be invited to walk in this year’s Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. After the Parade, the public is invited to enjoy Irish music and dancing at a Saint Patrick's Celebration at KIX-McNutley's (free admission).

Rabies Clinic Hosted by the
City Clerk's Office March 23
The Sea Isle City Clerk’s Office will host a Free Rabies Clinic on Saturday, March 23, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00, at the former public school building, 4501 Park Road (please use north front entrance and follow signs). This event is open to dogs and cats of all Cape May County residents. 2019 Sea Isle City Dog Licenses will also be on sale during this event ($5.20 for spayed and neutered, and $8.20 for non-spayed or non-neutered). Mayor Desiderio will host a fundraiser benefitting Volunteers in Medicine of South Jersey titled “Cocktails for Care” on Saturday, March 23, 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at KIX-McNutley’s on 63

Street. Tickets cost $20 in advance and $25 at the door (includes a buffet dinner, music and dancing, and happy hour drink prices). Volunteers in Medicine is a volunteer-based free health clinic for the uninsured and underserved in Atlantic and Cape May Counties – and their motto is “Neighbors Caring For Neighbors.” For ticket information, please phone 609-320-6397 or visit

Needs Help With Addiction?
The “Hope One Van" will be at the Acme Shopping Center, 6212 Landis Avenue, on Tuesday, March 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Hope One Van provides a comfortable, stigma free setting to promote outreach, to encourage personal contacts, and to effectively provide mobile and on-site services to individuals who have had difficulty navigating the journey of accessing appropriate addiction services. The program’s goal is to provide drug rehabilitation and counseling services to people prior to them having contact with law enforcement and the Criminal Justice System or worse, overdosing from these dangerous drugs. The Hope One Program is a partnership with the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and numerous service organizations in Cape May County. For more info about the Hope One Program, go to

Do You Need Assistance
Filing Your Taxes?
Cape May County will once again be assisting residents with the preparation of their Income Tax returns. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program of Cape May County is offering FREE tax preparation to residents of any age with income under $55,000.00 (even County employees). The Cape May County Division of Aging and Disability Services and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, with support of the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders, have partnered with the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey and the Campaign for Working Families to open four VITA sites in Cape May County. VITA sites will be open through April 15, 2019 by appointment only.

Please Plan An Alternate Route
Due to the need for repairs, the Cape May County Bridge Commission has closed the Townsends Inlet Bridge (connecting Sea Isle City and Avalon) to all vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle traffic. While repairs are underway, construction crews will be working extra shifts; however the bridge is not expected to re-open until May, 2019.
