  Happy Earth Day!

Oh my spring has been so evasive! Every time we think it's sprung, it somehow goes back into hiding!

Alas, this had not deterred our annual celebration of Earth Day, and this year we worked together to decorate planters for our outdoor space.

We began our Earth Day celebration with an all-school assembly. The Kinders sang a beautiful song about the Earth and Ms. Mindy read an entertaining book about our environment. Later in the day, each classroom engaged in Earth Day related activities, like this seed planing in Glacier.

Speaking of the great outdoors, we've been told to expect the first phase of outdoor work to resume next week, assuming the weather cooperates. We can expect some paving, and drainage work to be done while the children are on break. Looking forward to the improvements!

Issue #3 of Mill Falls Roots - our student newspaper, has been published and distributed!

Black and white copies were sent home in backpacks today with our Lower and Upper Elementary Students; color copies will be hung up around school for viewing.

The student editors are all Upper Elementary Students. They worked with Meryl & Roxanne and did a great job of sharing their voices and ideas.

The group hopes to complete one more issue before the end of the year and is accepting articles and art for consideration in the next issue..

Reading Together this morning.

One of our Earth Day Projects took place Art Class which was guest-taught by Ms. Susanne (our Art Teacher was sick today). Each class decorated a pot (see below), which will be planted and placed outside after April Vacation. The students also did some classroom activities related to environmental studies and the celebration of Earth Day.

Earlier this week, our Kinders discovered the art of paper making!

Working with grey cardboard, they soaked, then watered, then broke down the board with the help of a blender.

The creation then dried overnight on a screen.

Meanwhile, our 5th Year Students did a hands on lab as part of their investigation of physical and chemical reactions.
Their lab produced some delicious waffles, as seen below!
