A new report from
United Hospital Fund and
Milbank Memorial Fund makes clear the magnitude of the opioid epidemic's impact on newborns, young children, adolescents and their families. It also looks at the needs of kinship caregivers, typically grandparents raising grandchildren.

GrandInvolve
GrandInvolve is a program based in Fairfax County, VA, and a 50-plus initiative to recruit older adult volunteers to work in local schools with high poverty enrollment. The program, which received a 2017 Governor's Community Organization Award, was recently featured on NBC 4 News. Learn more about the program.

Think Intergenerational - Funding Opportunities
 Elizabeth Dole Foundation Accepting Applications for Hidden Heroes Fund. The Elizabeth Dole Foundation is now accepting grant applications for the 2019 Hidden Heroes Fund. The Foundation will be granting a total of $500,000 to organizations ready to build or expand military caregiver programs and will prioritize applicants who demonstrate the greatest potential of making measurable progress in the areas of caregiver case management, employment and workplace support, mental health, and respite.

Brookdale Relatives as Parents Program (RAPP). The Brookdale Foundation Group has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the creation or expansion of supportive services to grandparents and other relatives raising children. Up to 15 programs will be selected to receive a seed grant of $15,000 ($10,000 and $5,000 respectively), contingent upon progress made during year one and potential for continuity in the future.

2019 Policy Innovations Challenge.
The National Academy of Social Insurance, in collaboration with AARP, have grants between $20,000 and $25,000 for three to five applicants with winning proposals that address the income
adequacy needs of older workers who must claim Social Security retirement benefits before their full retirement age due to poor health, an inability to continue to perform physically demanding jobs, or other factors. Deadline: March 29, 2019. Learn more.
Literacy Grants. The Dollar General Literacy Foundation provides support to nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and libraries in communities served by Dollar General in 44 states through the Youth Literacy Grants.

The Retirement Research Foundation, one of the nation's first private foundations devoted exclusively to aging and retirement issues, is offering a request for proposals for efforts that improve access to quality, community-based and long-term services and supports. This resource from Generations United provides tips, practical information and a list of additional resources covering five topic areas - Practicing Self-Care; Addressing Childhood Trauma; Preventing Harmful Drug Use by Children; Engaging with Birth Parents; and Talking with a Child about their Birth Parent.

Survey of Shared Site Intergenerational Programs. This resource from Generations United and The Ohio State University, with support from The Eisner Foundation, contributes to the goal of establishing a new national baseline of shared site intergenerational programs. The study results were incorporated into All In Together: Creating Places Where Young and Old Thrive, a report issued by Generations United and The Eisner Foundation. Learn more about the survey.
Love Without Borders: Grandfamilies and Immigration.
This report highlights grandfamilies who come together as a result of a parent's detention or deportation. The challenges they face include restricted access to support and services to help meet the children's needs, language barriers, and fear of government agencies.
