Israel Strikes 100 Targets in Gaza Overnight in Response to Rockets Fired at Tel Aviv
The Israeli army attacked some 100 targets in Gaza Thursday overnight in response to two rockets being fired at Tel Aviv from the Strip the evening before, a first since the 2014 war. According to a preliminary army assessment, the rockets were fired at Tel Aviv by mistake during maintenance work. In an unusual move, the organizing committee for the March of Return in Gaza announced Friday morning that it called off the weekly protest along the Israel-Gaza border in light of the flare-up.

Nazi Posters Hung at School Whose Students Played Swastika Drinking Game
Posters with Nazi symbols were hung around the campus of a Southern California high school whose students were filmed offering the "heil Hitler" salute over a swastika made out of beer cups during a drinking game. The posters were discovered Sunday on the campus of Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach and removed before students returned to school on Monday. Newport Beach Police are investigating the incident

The Fight to End the Hyde Amendment Has Finally Come to the U.S. Senate
Pro-choice lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate introduced legislation on Tuesday to block the Hyde Amendment and other bans on insurance coverage for abortion care. The legislation, known as the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH Woman) Act, would ensure "that every woman who receives her health care or insurance through the federal government will have coverage for all pregnancy-related services, including abortion," according to the All* Above All campaign.

DeVos Moves to Ease Church-State Rules in Education
ducation Secretary Betsy DeVos announced Monday that she will no longer enforce a provision in federal law that bars religious organizations from providing federally funded educational services to private schools. The move comes after the 2017 Supreme Court decision,
Trinity Lutheran Church of Columbia Inc. v. Comer, in which the high court found that Missouri had unconstitutionally engaged in religious discrimination when it denied a church-run preschool publicly funded tire scraps for its playground.

New Zealand Jews 'Sickened' by Mosque Shootings That Killed 49
Jewish groups from New Zealand and beyond expressed their horror at the slaying of at least 49 people at two mosques in Christchurch Friday. "We offer our full assistance and support to the Muslim community and stand united with it against the scourge of terrorism and racism, which we must do all we can to banish from New Zealand," Stephen Goodman, said the president of The New Zealand Jewish Council.

12 Republicans Cross Trump as Senate Votes to Repeal Emergency Declaration
The Senate has voted to undo President Trump's emergency declaration on the U.S.-Mexico border, the most high-profile and bipartisan rebuke of Trump's presidency.
Every Senate Democrat and a dozen Republicans joined together Thursday to pass a resolution disapproving of Trump's attempts to seize money Congress appropriated for other purposes to build his wall. The final vote was 59-41.

An Exhibit in South Africa Recalls the Exodus of Ethiopian Jews to Israel
In 1983, when Danny Abebe was 9 years old, his Jewish family decided one Rosh Hashanah night to leave their remote village in Ethiopia - with some 700 others - due to war and a series of famines that had wracked the country. "We didn't know where [we were going], nobody told us," he recalled. "We walked barefoot to Sudan - we walked 800 kilometers, over three weeks, walking 45-55 kilometers a day," or between 28 and 35 miles.

Joint Action Committee for Political Affairs (JACPAC) is a pro-Israel PAC with a domestic agenda. We support a strong U.S.-Israel relationship and advocate for reproductive health and the separation of religion and state and incorporate other issues of importance to the Jewish community, including gun violence prevention and climate change. In addition to providing financial support for U.S. Senate and House campaigns, JACPAC educates our membership with outreach events designed to inform and activate their participation in the political process.

Federal law requires political committees to report the name, mailing address, occupation and employer for each individual who contributes over $200 in a calendar year. Maximum contribution per person may not exceed $5,000 per calendar year. According to law, JACPAC cannot accept corporate contributions. Membership, gifts, or other payments to JACPAC are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.
