Stage 1 of the upgrade of Oaklands Estate Reserve was completed in February 2019 with new picnic facilities, pathways and the reopening of the Sturt River Bridge from Bombay Street Reserve. Some sections of Stage 1 remain closed to allow for further establishment of new lawn.
Stage 2 is underway and includes installation of play equipment, upgrade of the Japanese Garden to nature play area and minor works to the car park.
The Oaklands Education Centre and Precinct was officially opened on Wednesday 13 March 2019.
The centre is a $200,000 partnership between the City of Marion and Flinders University. A living laboratory, it will give schools, community groups and researchers a better understanding of how wetlands work.
In addition, a rotunda, trike track, basketball and netball area, landscaping and car park were built next to this exciting new facility for $640,000. Marion Council invested $338,000 in the work and the State Government $302,000.
Stormwater works are currently underway at
Heron Way Reserve. The civil works will be completed in time for the Anzac Day commemoration.
Once completed steps and pathways will be constructed from the Commemorative Space to the foreshore picnic facilities. Turf and additional planting will complete the landscape works.
Plympton Oval will be open for use in early March 2019.
The works undertaken have been significant and are required approximately once every 30 years to maintain suitable playing surfaces.
Fencing will remain in place until the new turf has firmly established. The growth of the turf is dependent on the weather and we will assess its establishment prior to opening the oval to the public.
