News from the Currituck County Center
From the Director
This is it folks! The year is coming to an end. I don't know about you, but I feel like this year has flown by. I can't wait to share with you all the milestones and accomplishments of 2018 - but I'll save that for another newsletter. For now, we at NC Cooperative Extension in Currituck County would simply like to say thank you for your support and participation in 2018. We wish you and your family and friends a very safe and happy holiday season.

Recycle your Christmas Tree

Fresh cut Christmas trees are such a peaceful sight during the holidays, but once the packages disappear and the needles begin littering the floor they can be somewhat of a burden. Rather than sending your once treasured tree to the landfill, consider these alternative ways to dispose of your tree.

First and foremost, remove all ornaments, lights and any tinsel or other decorations. Be sure you examine the tree closely – you don’t want to lose any of your treasured heirlooms! Giving the tree a good shake down once outside will help ensure nothing was left on the tree.

Start the New Year Right-Set Goals for 2019

According to recent studies, only 20% of the population set goals, and as many as 92% of those goals are never achieved. That same research shows that 84% of highly successful people, no matter what career field, regularly set and strive to achieve personal and professional goals. Goals are critical! They keep you focused on what’s important, and allow you to make the best use of the hours in each day. When tackled correctly, they force you out of your comfort zone and help you grow more than you would without them.

Fill Up Your Cup With Self-Care

Have you ever heard you can not pour from an empty cup? In this metaphor, we are the cup and what we pour is our energy. We pour from our cup all day. We spread our energy at work, at home, to our partners, our friends, family, and even people for whom we do not care. But what happens when there is nothing more to give? We have to find a way to fill our cup – or ourselves – back up with energy to spread around again the next day. Our society says to drink more coffee or that being tired is just part of life…but is it though?
