Luther College's music department presents the biennial Spring Oratorio concert, featuring Luther's Symphony Orchestra, Nordic Choir, Collegiate Chorale and Cathedral Choir. The performance includes Francis Poulenc's Gloria and Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms in commemoration of Bernstein's 100th birthday. The concert will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17, in Luther's Center for Faith and Life Main Hall.

Nominate a graduating senior!  The Luther magazine seeks nominations of outstanding students who will graduate this May. We plan to profile seniors who excel academically, musically, athletically, through service, through internships, through entrepreneurship, or otherwise. If you know any seniors who fit the bill, please send suggestions to [email protected]  by April 5. Please be specific about what makes this student special!

New Issue of The Chessboard Upcoming: The second issue of The Chessboard will be circulated next week. The Chessboard seeks to stoke campus-wide conversations about contemporary issues. Topics for this issue include: a look at the causes of gun violence, a discussion about mission work, and an overview of today’s situation in the Western Sahara. Copies will be distributed around campus, particularly in the Union. Feel free to keep a copy and enjoy!

Creatives and Entrepreneurship  - Hear John McDavitt explain how you can take control of your artistic and creative gifts to create and maintain the business of your dreams. People and Parks: Pastoralism and Conservation in East Africa (Tanzania) – Paideia II (450) — Tanzania January Term 2020 Information Session: Wednesday, March 20 at 6:30 p.m., Valders 262. This course in Tanzania will explore the intersection of conserving natural habitats and cultural identity through the lens of the Maasai community and interactions with wildlife conservation professionals associated with national parks and other conservation areas. Email Molly McNicoll with questions.

The Luther College Hearing Board , which adjudicates significant violations of the Student Code of Conduct, is seeking students to serve as members of next year's board.  The application is available online; interested students must have a minimum 2.50 GPA and possess maturity, respect for confidentiality, and excellent critical thinking skills. RERUNS

Luther's Anthropology Club is pleased to have anthropologist Martha Rees as a guest speaker on Monday, March 18. In her talk entitled “Oaxaca, Mexico: Ecologies and Histories”, Martha will explore Oaxaca through topics such as diversity of ecology, languages and cultures, women and immigrant health and safety, and migration. The short, informal talk will begin at 4:30 in Koren 217. This event is open to the public and all are encouraged to come.

Luther College presents Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' "Appropriate," a story of siblings colliding over a contentious family history while settling the accounts of the newly-dead Lafayette patriarch. Performances take place in the Jewel Theatre in the Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 15; 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16; and at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 17.

Igor Kalnin , Luther College assistant professor of music will give a recital at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 16 in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Kalnin will perform on the violin in a chamber ensemble Duo MemDi.

The 2019 Sihler Memorial Lecture features guest speaker Deborah Smith Pollard, University of Michigan-Dearborn Professor of English Literature and Humanities. Focusing on performances of the gospel music standard "O Happy Day" by female performers, the lecture commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Black Student Union at Luther College, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, in the Recital Hall of the Center for Faith and Life

Krahn Family Student Life Service Award Nominations for this award must be current Sophomore and Junior students who have demonstrated a strong contribution to campus life in a way that embraces the spirit and mission of Luther College. Any student, faculty, or staff member may nominate a student. This award is designed to recognize a student who makes a positive impact to student life. The $1,000 award is expected to be over and above any financial assistance a student receives. The nomination form can be found here . Nominations due by April 12.
 
Kuh Family "Positively Luther" Award This award is given each year to a student whose character, leadership, and participation in co-curricular and other educationally purposeful activities enhance the quality of campus life. The recipient must be in good academic standing with a demonstrated need for financial assistance. This $5,000 award is expected to be over and above the financial aid package offered by the College. Students may apply for this award through April 12.
