"...In Our Midst."
Dear Mission Friends,
You may have heard the story before.
There was a famous monastery which had fallen on very hard times. Its many buildings used to be filled with young monks. Now a handful of old monks shuffled through the cloisters and praised their God with heavy hearts.
On the edge of the monastery woods, an old rabbi had built a little hut. Now and then he would spend a little time there praying and fasting. For as long as he was there the monks would feel sustained by his prayerful presence. One day the abbot decided to visit the rabbi and to open his heart to him. So that’s what he did one day after the celebration of the Eucharist.
The rabbi welcomed the abbot with arms outstretched. It was as though he had been waiting for this moment for some time. They sat for a while in silence in the presence of the book of Scriptures.
Then the rabbi said: “You and your brothers are serving God with heavy hearts. You have come to ask a teaching of me. I will give you a teaching, but you can only repeat it once. After that, no one must ever say it aloud again.”

“Non-Festival, Pro-Mission” Xavier Knoll Outdoor Mass
Due to Covid-19 we, the Xaverians, were obliged to cancel our Annual Mission Festival in Franklin WI.

Nevertheless, we took the opportunity to continue the annual raffle to support our Missions around the world. The raffle took place on Sunday, July 26, 2020, after an outdoor Mass on the Xaverian Grounds at 10:00 am. See a slide show of the event here.

We complied with social distancing and infection prevention to keep everyone safe.

Thank you so much for all your support through these rough times.

The message of Bishop Natale Paganelli SX for a peaceful Sierra Leone

2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombings by the United States of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima (August 6) and Nagasaki (August 9). By the end of the year, 1945, more than 210,000 people, mainly civilians, were dead. Those surviving the bombings (Hibakusha) and their children continue to suffer the physical and psychological impacts of the bombing and radiation. The following prayer is from Rev. Tim Mulroy, SSC
Superior General of the Missionary Society of St. Columban.

Creator God,
Your world is precious but human folly threatens its very existence.
We pray for those whose lives have been destroyed
by nuclear weapons and nuclear testing.
We pray for those denied the essentials of life when money is squandered
on nuclear weapons production.
We pray for the politicians, scientists and militaries responsible
for the manufacture, build-up and deployment of nuclear weapons,
that they may recognize another way for peace is possible.
We pray that our Church will speak to the world with clarity and wisdom
and work with world leaders to ban the development,
possession and use of nuclear weapons.
With Pope Francis, we commit ourselves to work
for a world without nuclear weapons.
We pray in hope for a world built on just relations and cooperation
among people who wish to live in
peaceful co-existence for generations to come.
Amen.
