Bodegas Volver
"Tarima Hill" Monastrell
Alicante, Murcia, Spain
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Made from 48- to 83-year-old Monastrell vines grown at 2100 to 2500 feet of altitude, Tarima Hill is an insane value. The higher altitude and old vines make for a concentrated, balanced stunner that far outperforms its $13.99 price. A wine like this could not be made in the United States, land is simply too expensive here!
Soft, sexy and powerful, this wine will have you hooked from the first sip. Enticing dark berry aromas leap from the glass, followed by  complex, silky flavors of rich, ripe black cherry, blackberry and blueberry followed by balsamic, blooming red flowers, black pepper, vanilla and a plethora of baking spices. The influence of 14+ months in French oak is perfectly integrated in the form of soft tannins and a kiss of acidity.
The 93- and 92-point reviews from Jeb Dunnuck and Wine Spectator are spot-on. Wine Spectator also awarded Tarima Hill the #17 position on their "Top 100" list, making it the least expensive wine - by a wide margin - to earn a top 20 spot!
"From old vines and aged 14-16 months in French oak, the 2015 Tarima Hill sports an inky color as well as a smoking bouquet of black raspberries, blueberries, pepper, and dried flowers. It's broad, expansive, and sweetly fruited, with a great mid-palate and sweet tannin. It's a sexy fruit bomb done with class!"
- 93 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (3/1/2018)
"This red shows grace and depth. Black cherry, plum, mineral and smoke flavors mingle harmoniously over well-integrated tannins, while lively acidity keeps this focused. Not showy, but all the pieces fit together. Balanced, in the modern style. Monastrell. Drink now through 2025."
- 92 Points, Wine Spectator (12/31/2017)
At $13.99 per bottle, the value here is rather extraordinary. The 2015 Tarima Hill is a wine that you can serve to your most discerning wine friends and, because of the price, not feel guilty for breaking open after a Tuesday at work. Jeb calls this a "sexy fruit bomb done with class" and he's right on the money. This one is going to fly out by the multiple caseload!
- $24 Mail-In Rebate on Cristalino -
Jaume Serra "Cristalino" Cava Brut NV
Cava, Penedés, Spain
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As a Cava, Cristalino gets its bubbles using the traditional Champagne method of in-bottle fermentation. That they are able to use such an expensive process and get the wine to our shelf in the United States for $6.99 is amazing in its own right. That they're able to offer a huge rebate on top of that is mind-boggling!

Despite the incredible price, this is a credible bottle of wine. Refreshing citrus flavors of lemon and lime lead to a tart apple core. Persistent bubbles keep the wine clean and refreshing.

If you like to drink sparkling wine during the week, this is an easy choice. If you are looking for a sparkler to make Sunday morning Mimosas or Bellinis, this is the perfect wine. If you need a sparkler to pour at a big party or for a wedding toast, this is it.

Looking online, we found 387 listings for Cristalino with a median price of $8.79. Our "regular" price is already 20% less. Tack on the $24 per case rebate and you have a delicious, traditionally made Cava for sixty bucks a case. As we said, totally nuts!
