 SO Many Special Friends!

What a WONDERFUL turnout we had for our 2019 Grandparents & Special Friends Day earlier this week. It was, literally, a standing room only crowd! So many of you helped to make the day a true success. From those who shared goodies for our breakfast table, to those who volunteered as ambassadors, to those who worked the book fair, to those who helped spread the word about the day, and helped arrange for our guests to join us! We are deeply thankful for all the assistance, and hope you will enjoy seeing some images from the day, included below.

And while we are thanking people... It's been such a busy, albeit short, week and every day there have been scores of volunteers in our midst.

The intrepid group of Book Fair Volunteers set up the Fair last Friday and have kept the shop open and well maintained every day! Special thanks to Marie R, Gina (and her mom!), Lauren D, Jen D,  Tom G, Meghan S, Lauren Ducas, Erin F, Lauren DuPaul, Lisa Z, Soncheri, and anyone else who lent a hand!

Thanks, too, to those who shared all the wonderful goodies for our
Teacher  Luncheon  during Conferences. The day is a long one for our teaching staff, so keeping them well nourished is a wonderful way to share your strength and appreciation. These acts of kindness fall beautifully in line with our Montessori program!

And even amidst all that action in this short week, we had our usual handwriting and reading volunteers with us as well. At times it was a bit tight here - in terms of time and space - so a HUGE thanks for everyone's flexibility and good cheer.

Our 2019 Lottery Enrollment Period closed this week as well. We had 188 students enrolled, including siblings. Susanne is working now on the final preparation for Lottery Day which is next Tuesday!

We finished out the week on Friday with a day-long Professional Development Day. The teaching staff  gathered  to discuss program transitions - when the children move from Kinder to Lower Elementary, and from Lower Elementary to Upper Elementary. Later this spring, the Kinder and Lower Elementary students will  participate  in our annual Student Step Up Fridays, but  there  is much to plan for in advance of that and in preparation for next year. The second half of the day was spent discussing some of our programming around math, and working as teams in the classrooms.

We know that these early release days can be challenging for some of your schedules, but please know we make extremely good use of every minute of these early release days! This kind of professional development, planning and collaboration time is priceless and is part of what keeps our program humming. Meryl attended the Annual Charter School Conference, and presented a workshop on Board Governance.

We are so pleased to report that the District of Manchester has reversed its decision made last year, which had our students sharing buses with the much older students from MC2. The District folks have heard our concerns - put forth by our administration over the last year, and by parents as well, and beginning last week, we have been assigned 3 buses which ONLY serve Mill Falls kiddos! There were more than a few hiccups in getting the new routes going, but things seem to be almost smoothed out. We want to thank our bus families for their patience AND take a moment to thank Ms. Jen who has been on top of every bus issue and concern, and has worked closely with our partners at the Manchester Transit Authority, to iron things out. Here's to a smooth ride going forward!

If Everyone Does a Little, We Can Accomplish a LOT!

Sales for our  2019 Calendar Raffle are underway and we are hoping
that  you and your children are working together to sell the calendars sent home. If each  of us sold 10 calendars, we would raise more than the $12,000 goal! If each of us do a little, we can do so much in support of our school!

Each child was sent home with 10 calendars last week. Please let us know if you need more!

Raffle Calendars can be purchased from each MFCS Family, or you can direct your friends, relatives, neighbors, co-workers, doctors, lawyers, and so on to visit:  www.millfalls.org/spring-calendar-raffle
or scan this QR Code ---->>>>>>>>>>>>
to make their purchases.

It takes a village to make this annual all-school fundraiser a success, and we ask each family to participate. There are some FABULOUS prizes on this year's calendar, which should help all of us sell them! Thank you for your efforts!

  State Assessments Coming Up

It is once again that time of year, when we begin the state-mandated standardized assessment called the NH Standardized Assessment System or SAS (formerly known as Smarter Balanced).

On Monday, April 1st, our third through sixth year students will begin the first session of testing in math and language. Our anticipated completion date will be Tuesday, April 9th.

As reminder SAS assessments are designed to measure real world skills like critical thinking and problem solving. This assessment is web-based, untimed and adaptive and as you know we will be using our iPads and Chromebooks to implement this task.

Please click here to view the letter from Laura W. which will be sent home next week in backpacks.
