For Earl Miller, a cognitive neuroscientist at MIT, breaking down the neurophysiology of working memory has been part of his life's pursuit. One of his early inspirations in graduate school at Princeton was George A. Miller, an innovative psychologist who was pivotal in advancing the field of cognitive neuroscience. Fittingly, Miller is the latest recipient of the CNS George A. Miller Prize, in recognition of his innovative work to understand working memory. Submissions deadline approaching for the 2019 Meeting of the Society for the Neuroscience of Creativity (SfNC; https://tsfnc.org/). SfNC 2019 will be held on Friday, March 22 in San Francisco, CA, at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, preceding the Cognitive Neuroscience Society meeting (March 23-26, 2019; https://www.cogneurosociety.org/annual-meeting/). Submissions will be accepted until January 5th 2019.

Union College
The Union College Department of Psychology seeks an excellent teacher/scholar specializing in cognitive psychology and/or neuroscience for a period of three years, with the possibility of extending to five. The area of specialization is open, but the successful candidate will be able to offer our 200-level courses in cognitive psychology and behavioral neuroscience. An ability and interest to teach some subset of statistics, introduction to psychology, sensation and perception with lab, and research methods would also be helpful. We also anticipate that our new colleague will contribute to the College's general-education program by teaching a first-year preceptorial and/or sophomore research seminar. Both of these courses are aimed at non-majors, focus on a topic of the faculty member's choosing, and develop students' writing, thinking, and secondary-research skills. We expect that our new colleague will establish and maintain a high-quality research program that involves undergraduate students. PhD by appointment date preferred.
Union College recognizes the rich possibilities of interdisciplinary studies. Candidates who can support Interdisciplinary Studies programs, including those with community engagement interests, are encouraged to apply.

Faculty Position
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN COMPUTATIONAL MODELING OF BRAIN NETWORKS

The Stanford Cognitive and Systems Neuroscience Laboratory invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in computational modeling of human brain imaging data using deep neural networks. The successful candidate will be involved in a multidisciplinary project that seeks to develop novel computational frameworks for robust identification of neurobiological signatures of psychiatric and neurological disorders combining deep learning and convolution networks and dynamic brain circuit analyses with task and resting-state fMRI. Clinical disorders currently under investigation include autism, ADHD, anxiety and mood disorders, learning disabilities, schizophrenia, and Parkinson's disease. We seek talented and highly-motivated individuals with a strong background in at least one of these areas: deep learning algorithms and optimization (theory and practical implementations); computational modeling, statistical inference, and machine learning, especially as applied to fMRI and MRI data. The candidate will have access to multiple large datasets and state-of-the-art computational resources, including HPCs and GPGPUs. This teaching position will have a 3/3 course load plus other associated duties (e.g., lab supervision), with a 10% service expectation. Primary teaching responsibilities will be courses related to Cognitive Neuroscience, including upper level courses in Cognitive Neuroscience, Biological Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Learning and Memory, Sensation and Perception, as well as our introductory level course Mind, Brain, and Behavior. We're searching for a candidate interested in understanding the cognitive, computational, and neural mechanisms underlying social valuation and decision making in control and clinical populations. Directed by Andrew Kayser M.D. Ph.D. in conjunction with Ming Hsu Ph.D. and Jennifer Mitchell Ph.D., this project will combine and extend behavioral, computational, and functional imaging approaches in order to develop a framework for analyzing social function in both control subjects and subjects with alcohol use disorders. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in psychology, neuroscience, bioengineering, or a related field, or an M.D. degree with appropriate training. Strong analytical skills and a record of previous research are welcomed, and previous experience with fMRI and value-based decision making is strongly preferred. Facility with Matlab, Python, or another programming language is required. The initial appointment will be for two years. The successful candidate will have access to a friendly and collaborative environment, as well as to extensive facilities at U.C. San Francisco and U.C. Berkeley. The starting date is Spring 2019, but potentially flexible for the right candidate. Responsibilities will primarily involve designing, conducting and analyzing behavioral and neuroimaging studies.

The ideal candidate will have experience using one or more human neuroscientific techniques (e.g., MRI/fMRI, EEG/ERPs, TMS) and proficiency with a variety of statistical analyses and packages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R). The department has 5 EEG/ERP laboratories, and the MU Brain Imaging Center (established in 2008) houses a research-dedicated 3T MRI scanner.

The Office of Academic Affiliations, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is now accepting applications for a two-year VA funded program for researchers (MD or PhD) with an optional third year of funding. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. The Fellowship site is located within the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System, War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC). The WRIISC interdisciplinary program aims to provide M.D.'s or Ph.D.'s in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience or other applicable disciplines with clinical experience and research training to become outstanding researchers in high-priority areas of healthcare. The Fellow will analyze data from rehabilitation studies examining behavioral interventions such as meditation or yoga for treating posttraumatic stress disorder and chronic pain. Candidates should have an interest in the mechanism of action of such interventions, with an emphasis on processes related to cognition (sleep, memory consolidation), or autonomic nervous system function. Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in applied research, integrative health, or rehabilitation methods. The Fellowship would be suitable for candidates with a background in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, physiological psychology or similar fields of study. Fellows will conduct studies and analyze data that will create the foundation for future treatments, and will develop innovative tools and measures for novel approaches to healthcare.

The Karuza Lab is looking for qualified individuals to apply for a Postdoctoral Scholar position in the area of cognitive neuroscience and learning. The Postdoctoral Scholar will be stationed at The Pennsylvania State University's main campus at University Park. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate with a neuroscience background (in particular, functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging; fMRI) who will play a key role in contributing to research on the cognitive and neural processes that support complex pattern learning. The lab has an interest in studying learning mechanisms across domains, so candidates with experience ranging from language acquisition to visual processing are welcome to apply. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Psychology, Linguistics, Cognitive Science or a related field, or have completed all of the requirements for a Ph.D. by the time of appointment. Experience with fMRI techniques is strongly preferred. The Postdoctoral Scholar will be expected to design and coordinate experiments, present data at national and international conferences, and write manuscripts. Extensive mentorship is available for these activities to help prepare for an independent research career. The Postdoctoral Scholar will have ample opportunities to interact with several vibrant research communities at Penn State University (including the Center for Language Science, http://cls.psu.edu; the Center for Brain, Behavior, and Cognition, http://cbbc.psu.edu; and the Social, Life, and Engineering Sciences Imaging Center, http://www.imaging.psu.edu).
