- Do you love visiting historic houses?
- Have you always wanted to help take care of them?
- Are you able to volunteer during the work week?
Roof Raisers Curatorial Brigade volunteers donate their time and talent helping staff in our
Historic House Trust member houses take care of their historic collections.
Roof Raisers play a critical role in helping to make sure these wonderful houses and historic collections are here for generations to come!
How it Works:
Certified Roof Raisers receive regular email opportunity boards announcing opportunities for sessions at which to assist HHT member houses. Choose which session or sessions you are able to volunteer for. This is great for volunteers who wish to participate on a flexible basis.
Training:
Complete a 1 hour webinar and attend one training workshop. Learn and practice how to help historic house staff perform collections management tasks in their period rooms. You will be taught how
to recognize agents of destruction, the proper way to assist with lifting, handling, packing, taking inventory, and moving
historic furnishings; how to remove dust and other damaging elements fr
om furnishings, decorations, and architectural details.
The spring 2019 training workshop choices are:
May 22nd at Lefferts Historic House, Brooklyn
-or-
June 4th at King Manor Museum, Queens
You must be 18 years or older
