Success Stories

Tompkins County BEAM Outreach Coordinator, Sarah Bonawitz, shares program success story

TJ has been enrolled in the WIF BEAM Program since November 2016, with the plan of enrolling into the Medical Assistant Program at OCM BOCES. While TJ was not admitted for Spring 2017, she studied tirelessly and enrolled in August, 2017. TJ also participated in finding every type of funding available to her, including a PELL Grant and WIOA funding for supplies, mileage, and testing costs. A full-time program, parenting, and a weekend job gave TJ the busiest of schedules, yet she graduated from the program in March, 2018, with a 93% average.

The final weeks of the program are spent as an internship, and TJ spent hers at a local pediatric office. On the final day of her internship, the office offered TJ a position as a Medical Assistant. TJ began work on Monday, March 19, 2018, and is so happy to find work that satisfies her passion, and that has the ability to provide for her family. TJ is always so thoughtful and considerate, thanking everyone who assisted during her journey. But, TJ, you did all the hard work!

Congratulations TJ!
