With unrelenting passion, RTD's mission is to help our clients achieve
financial freedom so they may experience balanced and fulfilling lives.
The Upside of Volatility
While we've recently received a bit of a break, the last quarter of 2018 was a challenging one to say the least. Though i t can be difficult to remain focused on the long-term through periods of volatility, we find opportunities in the downside fluctuations.

Marc Labadie , RTD Chief Investment Officer, outlines how we take advantage of market downturns by rebalancing,  buying low and banking tax losses to offset future gains.  Click here  to read the article.
The Loss of Our Dear Friend  and Colleague, John Hochschwender

On February 23, 2019,  John Hochschwender, passed away while cross country skiing in Colorado. John was an integral part of our lives. He was a friend, mentor, leader, trusted advisor, and so much more.

John's contributions to his clients' lives, our firm and the advancement of the financial planning profession is immeasurable. As a Shareholder, CFO and Senior Financial Planner, John helped build RTD into what it is today: an ensemble organization where everyone works collectively toward the realization of the same goal - our clients' success. We are grateful for the precious time we had to work and grow with John. He made a significant impact in all our lives and will be deeply missed.

Relaxed Hardship Rules for 401(k) and 403(b) Plans
Beth Davies, Vice President of Retirement Plan Services, outlines changes to hardship rules brought about by the Bipartisian Budget Act of 2018. While the effect of the rules is to make more funds available to participants experincing financial hardship, there is concern this could lead to "leakage" of retirement plan savings.

The RTD Financial Charitable Fund

In 2018, RTD Financial established a Donor Advised Fund, contributing a percentage of profits to the fund each year. These funds are used to match employee donations and make quarterly grants. Employees submit grant proposals which are reviewed by our internal Corporate Social Responsibility Committee. This quarter, we granted $1,500 to The Penn Memory Center.

The Penn Memory Center is the patient care and research component of the Penn Alzheimer's Disease Center. Individuals age 50 and older have access to state-of-the-science diagnosis, treatment and research, focusing on individuals with Alzheimer's disease, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and other age-related progressive memory disorders. The Center is supported in part by the National Institute on Aging.

Additionally, in memory of our dear colleague, John Hochschwender, we made a $1,250 grant to the West Chester Salvation Army and a $1,250 grant to the Brandywine Valley SPCA.
