News and Updates from HCS
Reminders

We're still looking for drivers and chaperones for our Operation G.O.O.D. service project on Friday, May 11 from 8:45-11:40am. If you are able to help, click on the SignUpGenius  link to sign up.

Keep bringing in those Operation G.O.O.D. pledges. We had a slow week but now that spring is really here (I've declared it so...), it's a good time to talk to your neighbors about Heritage and ask if they'd like to support our school! All pledges must be turned in by 8:30am on Friday, May 4th.
Field Day Help Needed

Please consider volunteering to help with our K-4 Field Day this year! The date of the event is Tuesday, May 29th and will run from 12:40-3:00 pm. We would ask that the volunteers meet in the gym by 12:15 pm. If you have any questions please call Serah Snell 319-626-4777 ext. 120 or e-mail snells@hcs-nl.com .  A Sign-Up Genius will be sent out inviting you to volunteer.

The 2018 Talent Show is coming up quickly. The Talent Show is for students in Kindergarten – 8 th grade and is held the last day of school, May 30. All participants must sign up during that week. Students may sign up for a maximum of 2 acts. See the informational sheet in your student’s Friday Folder for more details. Spring Association (ICACSA) Meeting Date Change

Please make a note on your calendars that the Spring Association meeting (ICASCA) has been moved from Thursday, May 10 to Tuesday, May 8 at 7pm . Make plans now to attend and hear important updates from the board as well as vote on new board members.

The Iowa City Area Christian School Association (ICACSA) plays a crucial role in the ongoing ministry of the school. Those interested in being an active voting member of the Association must support Heritage Christian School's bylaws, which include the school's Statement of Faith, and must sign the Association membership form. In addition, members must pay annual dues of $5. If you would like to become a voting member and commit to being a regular attender at the meetings, held twice each year, please stop by the office to fill out the form and pay the dues. All current memberships expired February 1, 2018, so if you'd like to renew your membership and haven't already done so, please do so now.
Operation G.O.O.D. Service Project Details

Operation G.O.O.D. is underway! This year, with the help of city officials, our students will be serving more of the community than we have in the past. Kindergarten through 3 rd grade students will return to Squire Point to either battle the invasive Garlic Mustard Weed or support the Army Corps of Engineers in another conservation project. 4 th -8 th grade will be working within the city limits serving the city itself. While specific projects have not been defined yet, I have been assured through several communications with the city that they will have more than enough age-appropriate work for our students to do. Please pray with us as we prepare for this experience with our students.

Also, many of you have heard rumors about Operation G.O.O.D. t-shirts. It is not a rumor – it is true! The good news is that you do not need to pay for them. We thought it would be good for the community to see what we are trying to teach our students and recognize where all these hard working kids come from. These t-shirts will be provided to students, faculty, and volunteers on the day of the service project. Teachers are recording the sizes that we need so if you have any concerns about your children relaying their proper size, do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher to confirm.
UICCU Give & Grow to Schools

During April, UICCU members (new or existing) will again have the opportunity to make a donation (minimum $25 up to $500 per household) to Heritage through UICCU’s Give&Grow Schools Initiative. Member gifts will be deducted from respective checking or savings accounts and  UICCU will match member donations up to $5,000 for Heritage Christian School.
UICCU members can make a donation by going to www.uiccugiveandgrow.org April 1-30, 2018. They will be directed to select Johnson County, then Heritage Christian.

If you are giving toward Operation G.O.O.D. (information will be coming home soon regarding this), and do so through the UICCU website, you can include the portion of your donation on the student's form but not the UICCU match amount.
Weekly Feature

Each year at this time, we invite our grandparents to spend a day with us. Our students look forward to sharing this day with them. We enjoy chapel together, outside recess, a little learning, playing games, and showing grandparents what a day at school looks like. Thanks to all our grandparents for coming out and making this another successful day!
