Russell's Ritings....

A FAVORITE QUOTE ON 'PEACE'

"May He banish from the hearts of all men and women whatever might endanger peace. May He transform them into witnesses of truth, justice, and love. May He enkindle the wills of all so that they may overcome the barriers that divide, cherish the bonds of mutual charity, understand others and pardon those who have done them wrong."

"May all peoples of the earth become as brothers and sisters, and may the most longed-for peace blossom forth and reign always among men and women. Amen."

Pacem In Terris, Pope John XXIII, April 11, 1963

Sunday I will begin a series of sermons which will continue to the end of my pastorate, leaving the series only on Mother's Day and for my last Sunday, June 17. The series is entitled simply "Things We Need". The first sermon is "THINGS WE NEED: PEACE." (Philippians 4:9) I hope to see you THIS Sunday where the folks are friendly.

Shalom,
Russell

CHRISTENING AND DIAPER SHOWER
Christening at the 10:30 Service with
Diaper Shower and Cake After the Service

This Mother's Day we will be celebrating the christening of a new little member,  Scarlet Begonia Brady, daughter of Bernie and Meredith and sister Stella.  Cake and refreshments will be served in the Fellowship Hall after the 10:30 service to welcome our newest little one and her family.

We would also like to make this a diaper shower! So if you would like to take part we ask that you bring a package of disposal diapers (size 2-5) as your gift to the Brady family.  Diapers may be left in the Fellowship Hall ahead of time. No wrapping is needed. You may add a card or you can remain anonymous. This is meant to be easy on everyone but it will be a big help to the Brady family!

We are starting a new UMCE tradition, and we hope you will join in. We will be doing this for any of our members starting or adding to their family. Thank you!

SERIES ON THE PARABLES (NO. 4)
RICH MAN POOR MAN (LUKE 16: 19-31)
Facilitator: The Rev. Russell Fletcher
Our prayers differ in results. One man got nothing, the other got something. The church needs to hear this parable today to get more from our prayers. This story teaches us to be compassionate through sharing.

Sunday, April 29 from 9:30 - 10:20 am
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Facilitator:  Dr. Lorna Idol
We will learn or review how to communicate clearly and effectively. In our personal, professional and church relationships, effective communication is the key to learning from others and to being heard in respectful, caring and Christian ways. We will learn and practice using active on-going listening and responding skills to facilitate effective communication (e.g., acknowledging, paraphrasing, reflecting, clarifying, elaborating and summarizing). We will be utilizing adult education materials from one of Lorna's published professional development programs: Collaboration in the Schools:  Communicating, Interacting and Problem Solving.

Hope to see you there!
Lorna Idol, Ph.D.
