Shanghai Healing Home provides a home-like environment that meets not only the babies' physical needs but also their emotional and developmental needs.

The Shanghai Healing Home is funded 100% by the generous donations of our sponsors and one-time donors. We are very grateful to accept monetary or in-kind donations of any amount and form. A list of in-kind needs can be found on our website. Below are suggested sponsorship plans if you or a group of your friends would like to fully sponsor the cost of one baby's daily expenses.

How Can I Help?

Many people are asking us lately, "what can I do to help?". Right now, SHH is in need of new Baby Sponsorships. To date, we have a total of 16 fully sponsored babies and another 6 needing sponsorship. Baby sponsorships are a huge part of being able to pay the monthly expenses and care for the children. Even before we can pay for their medical needs and surgeries, we need to be able to pay for their daily needs in the home.

New Orientation Schedule

We have a new schedule for our orientation meetings. We now have more orientation dates to choose from and visitors select their date based on their language preference, whether it is Chinese or English!

Orientation meetings will be conducted in Chinese ONLY:

Every Tuesday at 9:30am

2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 9:30am

We were excited to welcome 5 new kids to the SHH family in June and July:

We also have the privilege this summer of hosting 4 older kids from one of the orphanages we partner with. These kids are out of school for the summer so they will be at SHH for about a month just hanging out having fun with us here in Shanghai. 今年夏天，我们还有幸接待来自我们合作的孤儿院的4名年龄较大的孩子。这些孩子正值暑假期间，因此他们将在上海新生命待上一个月，在上海与我们一起体验生活。

Update on Hua YZ

Hua YZ的最新近况

It is hard to believe that almost a year ago we were having to make the hard decision to take Hua YZ off of the ventilator and bring him home to provide palliative care. At the time, he was so sick and the doctors had tried everything they could but he just wasn't getting better. When they took him off the breathing machine, we were thrilled that he actually started breathing on his own. We put him on a little oxygen and brought him home and as the days went by he slowly got better...earning him the nickname our little "Miracle baby".

As the months passed, he slowly started gaining weight and getting stronger so much so that he was able to have his colostomy reversed in May. His recovery went really well and he is now back at home with us. He has continued to grow stronger and healthier so that in July we able to remove his feeding tube and start feeding him his milk by mouth.

As we think back over how far little Hua YZ has come since that first year, we are reminded about how none of this would be possible without the prayers and financial support of our sponsors. Thank you for making a difference in the life of little Hua YZ!

很难相信差不多一年前，我们不得不作出艰难的决定，从Hua YZ身上取下呼吸机，带回家提供姑息治疗。当时，他病得很重，医生们已经尽了一切努力，但他依旧没有好转。当他们把他从呼吸机上带走时，我们很高兴他开始自己呼吸。我们对他维持轻微的输氧并把他带回家，随着时间的流逝，他慢慢好起来......真的契合上了他的绰号，我们的"奇迹宝贝"。

几个月过去了，他慢慢开始体重增加，并且变得更加强壮，以至于他能够在5月份完成结肠造口术。他的恢复非常顺利，他现在回到了我们新生命之家。他慢慢地变得越来越强壮和健康，在7月的时候我们已经可以移走他的喂食管，并通过嘴巴给他喂牛奶。

当我们回顾自第一年以来Hua YZ经历的一切时，我们时刻记得，如果没有祈祷和赞助者们的财政支持，这一切都不可能实现。感谢您对小华YZ的生命所付出的巨大努力！

Advocating For Adoption

鼓励收养

For each edition of the SHH newsletter we always choose one of our children to advocate for whose international adoption file is ready. However, for this edition of the SHH newsletter we have two very special boys that we would like to advocate for.

The first little guy I would like to introduce is Caleb. He is 6 1/2 years old. Caleb was born with a medical condition called arthrogryposis which basically causes multiple joint deformities in his arms and legs. Caleb was 4 years old when he came to SHH and since that time he has had 6 different surgeries on his arms and legs. Now, with the help of his leg braces, he is able to walk on his own and he even enjoys going outside and kicking a soccer ball. The last surgery he had helped to straighten his wrist allowing him to be able to do more with his hands like feed himself and he is also able to hold a pen or pencil to draw . Despite his physical limits, Caleb does not let that get him down or stop him from trying to function independently. He is a very smart boy...he attends English and Chinese preschool classes and is able to communicate well in both languages. The second kid we would like to advocate for is Hai JY. He just turned 13 years old which means that he only has one year left to find his Forever Family. Based on the Chinese adoption laws, a child "ages out" at 14 years old, which basically means that once they turn 14 years old they can no longer be adopted. Hai JY is spending his summer break here with us at SHH. He is a really sweet kid and has been a great "big brother" to the other kids at SHH.

Volunteer highlights

志愿者活动

The past two months have been full of volunteer highlights... We have had outdoor water activities, complete with water gun and water balloon fights! I don't know who had more fun-the adults or the kids? :)

过去的两个月充满了志愿者活动......我们在户外玩水枪和充水气球的比赛！我都不知道是大人们还是小朋友们玩得更开心？

Our older kids also got to go on an outing to an Aquarium and Legoland thanks to one of our company sponsors. The kids had so much fun at both places but I think the highlight of the day was getting to pet a Beluga whale!

由于我们的一个公司赞助商，我们的大孩子们去了水族馆和乐高乐园。孩子们在这两个地方都玩得很开心，但我认为当天最重要的是我们得到一个"宠物"白鲸！

Not only have our kids been spoiled with all of the different fun summer activities but our caregivers also received a special treat thanks to another sponsor group. The caregivers were treated to a Chinese BBQ dinner...there was so much food that I think there ended up being enough for 2 or 3 meals!

不仅仅是我们的孩子被各种不同的有趣的夏季活动所宠坏，而且我们的护理人员也得到了另一个赞助团体的特殊待遇。护理人员接受了中式烧烤晚餐......有太多的食物，我认为这些食物应该要吃2到3餐才能吃完！

Preschool Corner

学前角

Here at SHH, we feel it is not only important for our kids to spend time learning in the classroom but to also spend time learning outside the classroom. So we love when we get a chance to take the kids on a field trip. Recently we took the kids to visit a nursing home. It was a great experience for our kids and the elderly people loved seeing them. Our kids were so spoiled that day as all of the grandmas kept giving them snacks.

在新生命之家，我们觉得让孩子们花时间在课堂上学习，而且花时间在课堂外学习也很重要。因此，当我们有机会带孩子们去实地考察时，我们会喜欢。最近，我们带孩子去养老院。这对我们的孩子和老年人喜欢看到它们来说是一次很棒的体验。我们的孩子们当天都被宠坏了，因为所有的奶奶都在给他们提供零食。

Besides having fun going on field trips, our preschool also welcomed two new students to the class this past month...Zhao YB and Dang TL!

Medical Need

Little Pu FX was sent to SHH last month because he has a hearing problem and needs speech therapy. We have been teaching him in Chinese using both verbal communication and sign language and he has been catching on fast. In addition to what we are doing at SHH, we would like to send him to speech therapy. The estimated

cost for 30 lessons plus the initial evaluation, supplies, and transportation is around 15,500 RMB (approximately $2291 USD). Please consider helping us to send Pu FX for speech therapy.

Volunteer Help Needed

Thank you to all the volunteers who regularly come out to help with our weekday baby development classes! We greatly appreciate your dedication to helping with our babies' development. The baby classes we offer are: baby signing time on Mondays at 9:30am, music class on Tuesdays at 2:30pm,and art class on Fridays at 9:30am. The classes last about 30-60 minutes.

We could use some more volunteers who would be willing come out regularly and lead or help with our baby signing time and art class.

No special skills necessary...just a willingness to help and have fun.
