ATA Gymnastics Newsletter                               March 2019

March is Acro Month!

Acrobatic Gymnastics is such an amazing sport and we don't want to limit it to just ATA's competitive team athletes. We believe our recreational students should experience the excitement of the sport as well. To accomplish this, we periodically incorporate acrobatic gymnastics into our recreational lesson plans.
"What is Acrobatic Gymnastics?" you may be thinking. This beautiful sport is a combination of dance, individual acrobatic & tumbling skills and partner skills. Athletes work in pairs or groups to perform skills of balance and of flight. Best comparison-the acrobatic performances in a Cirque Du Soleil show!
During the month of March, students will continue their skill training on the individual skill goals they have been working on. In addition, instructors will take a small amount of time during each class to focus on Acro***If you would like more information on our Pre Team or competitive team program, please stop by the front desk.

March Theme:  Achievement
The week of March 26 th - 29 th is Gymster Achievement Week. Gymster students will be working on a favorite skill all month to show off to their classmates and parents during Achievement Week. Come join us to celebrate your child's accomplishments.  They will receive a special ribbon commemorating their achievements!

Skill of the Month:  Cartwheel
The cartwheel is one of the most challenging skills that we teach the preschool age children.  This month's stations will include the building blocks leading up to a cartwheel.  Cartwheels develop coordination, strength, flexibility, agility and they are just plain FUN!

Acrobatic Gymnastics Team

Team ATA took off with great scores, many medals and lots of smiles for the beginning of the meet season!  After having a couple mock competitions and working on polishing and perfecting skills over the past couple weeks, the first competition is in the books!  Athletes from all over northern California came to The West Coast Premier in Livermore, CA the weekend of February 23-24.  ATA  brought athletes who competed level 6-8.  Many of our competitors were rookies and it was great to get that first experience under their belts.

On another note, most of our Team had the joy and fun of attending the performance of Volta this month.  It's truly entertaining and inspiring to watch professionals performing acrobatic gymnastics!    Getting the chance to attend in a large group was great for team bonding!

Silicon Valley Classic Acrobatic Gymnastics Competition

Achievement Week: April 1st-6th

At ATA every student is a STAR & we want to acknowledge each student's accomplishments!  During the dates of April 1-6, all students will get an opportunity to perform a favorite gymnastics skill in front of an audience during their regular class time.  Students will then be given a special ATA ribbon! Family & friends are welcome to come and watch!
