Researchers have long studied how this helping behavior develops, but why it develops has been examined less. A new study looked at the role of imitation to find that when 16-month-olds observe others' helping behavior, they're more likely to be helpful themselves

Study: Limiting Added Sugars During Pregnancy and in Child's Diet Protects Cognition

A new study has determined that poorer childhood cognition occurred, particularly in memory and learning, when pregnant women or their offspring consumed greater quantities of sugar. Substituting diet soda for sugar-sweetened versions during pregnancy also appeared to have negative effects. However, children's fruit consumption had beneficial effects and was associated with higher cognitive scores.

Autism Corner: Functional Literacy
[Source: The Autism Helper]

There is a misconception that academic and functional mutually exclusive. We for some reason got stuck in this thinking that tells us that instruction and activities are either academic or functional but cannot be both. When our students get older and we begin to transition to more functional tasks - that doesn't mean that we are leaving academics behind. So let's talk about out academics and functional skills can live together in perfect harmony.
