Weekly Letter from Deacon Rick Wagner
Bishop Chatard staff went through QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training, giving us some insight into the signs and causes of suicide. We also learned some intervention techniques and were offered tools aimed at helping students navigate the difficulties they might be experiencing. We would like to offer our parents a similar opportunity.

Message from Mr. Hansen
Pam Nixon, College Advisor at Bishop Chatard High School, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Last Wednesday she had surgery and is doing remarkably well. Doctors advised that she not work for the remainder of the year, but she hopes to return in time for graduation. Mrs. Nixon is confident that she will fully recover. She considers herself fortunate to have been diagnosed with breast cancer so early and have an amazing prognosis as a result.
She is feeling better than anticipated and should receive a full doctor’s report soon to determine if there is a need for any chemotherapy or radiation. We ask that you continue to pray for her return to good health. Please send any cards or well wishes to our Guidance Office. Thanks in advance for your support.

New International Students joining Bishop Chatard
Bishop Chatard is welcoming new international students for the 2018-2019 school year. David, an aspiring engineer, will be a sophomore in the Fall, and is transferring to BCHS from Seton Catholic in Richmond, Indiana. He likes baseball and basketball, he plays piano and likes pets, especially dogs. Tony is transferring in as a junior from Louisiana. He describes himself as an optimist, he loves languages, and he hopes to be a biologist. He likes football, basketball and tennis, and also loves dogs and little kids. Both of these young men are from China.

The entire Bishop Chatard community benefits from the cultural diversity of enrolling international students, which wouldn't be possible without our wonderful host families. Host families provide a bed, meals, and loving support, and receive monthly funds to meet the needs of the student. The student is responsible for all tuition and school-related expenses.

This culturally enriching program yields life-long friendships and countless other benefits. We ask that you prayerfully consider opening your home to this wonderful opportunity! For more details about becoming a host family, please contact Catherine Welch at  cwelch@bishopchatard.org  or 317-251-1451 ext 2257.
