NEW BIRTH RENEWED
Dear faithful people of Saint Peter's Church,

March 17 is the Second Sunday in Lent (Sunday’s are always celebrations of Christ’s Resurrection, hence are in not of Lent). In the Gospel (Saint John 3:1-17) Jesus begins renewing the promises of baptism in us.

Sunday’s 10:00 a.m. Forum led by Dr. Dennis Raverty is The "New Negro" and the Harlem Renaissance. It will take place in the Plaza Room.

Following this Wednesday’s 6:00 p.m. Evening Prayer, Susan Shellhart leads a conversation on Evolutionary Christianity.

Carole and I are away beginning March 16. We'll be back at mass on Sunday, March 31.

Peace and courage!
The Rev. Amandus J. Derr
Senior Pastor
GOOD TO KNOW
  • Johann Sebastian Bach’s The Passion According to Saint John is presented Friday, April 19 at Noon in its original setting: in liturgy on Good Friday, much as it would have been at Leipzig's Nikolaikirche on April 7, 1724. Please click HERE and use code BACH19 to reserve your seat in advance!

  • If you would like to serve as a hospitality volunteer for the Good Friday Noon liturgy to welcome visitors and Saint Peter’s members, please email Sarah at smoga@saintpeters.org.

  • The Fiction Book Discussion Group will next meet on Sunday, April 14 (Palm Sunday) to discuss An American Marriage by Tayari Jones, which was just released in paperback in February. As there is no brunch provided that Sunday, we will plan to meet in Pastor Derr's office after the offering counters have completed their work (roughly 12:45 or so). Those interested will go out for food afterwards. All are welcome to come and join us!

  • Construction on the long-awaited Chapel of the Good Shepherd HVAC system will begin on Monday, March 18. Demolition of the Sacristy ceiling is expected to be completed before March 31.

  • As of today, all members of Saint Peter's Church staff have completed NY State mandated anti-sexual harassment training. The deadline for completing this is April 1.

  • There will be a Congregational Meeting on Sunday, April 28 following the 11:00 a.m. Mass. Action items will include resolutions regarding property and capital expenses. A report on progress regarding Pastoral Transition will also be presented.

  • Yom HaShoah, our annual remembrance of Holocaust victims with Central Synagogue will be at 6:00 p.m. May 1 at Saint Peter's. Guest speaker will be Marty Brounstein, author of "Two among the Righteous."
