Is a Destination Wedding Right for You?
Destination weddings are becoming more and more popular each year. In fact, 24 percent of nuptials are destination weddings with 360,000 destination wedding taking place each year. I have a number of couples contemplating destination weddings and wondering if a destination wedding is right for them. Check out these points!
What Type of Wedding Should I Have?
Many couples get pressured into having a wedding that their family wants. Other couples want their wedding to be a unique experience unlike any other wedding they’ve been to. Many couples want to make sure that the celebration focuses solely on them and aren’t interested in planning a party for cousins that they only see once a year. Whatever your reason for considering a destination wedding, make sure you consider what it takes to have a destination wedding.

Guest List
How many people are on your guest list and how many of those people are “I can’t get married if these people aren’t there?” If you are looking to invite everyone you know and anyone your dad has ever done business with, a destination wedding may not be right. However, if you are looking to invite your close friends and your immediate family, you will be more on track. Remember, an average destination wedding is 48 people.

Dress Code
How fancy do you want your bridal gown to be? Are you okay with leaving your shoes on the boardwalk as you walk barefoot down the aisle? Are you cool with your guests arriving to your wedding in sun dresses and linen pants? If you are planning a destination wedding, you will most likely be outside, enjoying the gorgeous scenery. Make sure you are okay with the accommodations.

Hostess with the Mostess
Unlike a traditional wedding, you are inviting your guests to be with you for a weekend or longer. These people have traveled just to celebrate with you and you will want to make the most of that. Often bride and grooms plan group activities or break off into "boy" vs "girl" groups as they have fun with all the people that they are near and dear to.

Skipping the Gifts
Many couples now are older, established, even living together for some time and already have the traditional wedding gifts like bedding and towels. When a couple asks their guests to join them at their destination wedding, they should be aware that their guests are already spending more than they would for a traditional wedding back at home. Therefore, gift-giving isn’t nearly as grand.
