Construction Alert: Pedestrian Bridge to be Closed for Repairs
The pedestrian bridge along the Waterfront Trail, east of Waterfront Park, will be closed beginning January 7 through February for replacement of the decking and guardrails. 

As part of this project, there will also be new lights installed on the bridge and along the trail, between the bridge and Harborview Drive.
Join the Discussion: Council Ward Meetings Scheduled for January

The Bainbridge Island City Council would like to invite you to attend the Council Ward Meetings in January.

The Council Ward Meetings are an opportunity for you to meet with your elected officials to talk about topics in your neighborhood and the broader community that are of importance to you. Ward Meetings are intended to be a less formal setting than a Council meeting, so it allows for more of a conversation between community members and Councilmembers. 
  • North Ward Meeting with Mayor Kol Medina, Councilmember Joe Deets and At-Large Councilmember Ron Peltier: Saturday, Jan. 12; Seabold Hall; 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • Central Ward Meeting with Deputy Mayor Leslie Schneider, Councilmember Rasham Nassar and At-Large Councilmember Ron Peltier: Saturday, Jan. 19; City Hall; 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • South Ward Meeting with Councilmembers Sarah Blossom and Matt Tirman and At-Large Councilmember Ron Peltier: Saturday, Jan. 26; Island Center Hall; 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Get Involved: Planning Commission Seeking to Fill 1 Vacancy
We are seeking applicants to fill one vacancy on the Planning Commission. The person would serve a six-month term through June 2019 then be considered for a full three-year term.

The Planning Commission serves as an advisory body to the City Council, and provides recommendations to the Planning Director, Hearing Examiner and/or the City Council. The Commission's primary responsibility is to prepare, review and update the Comprehensive Plan.  A significant portion of the Commission's work will be review and recommendations 
related to major land use projects. 

The Commission currently meets twice a month (second and fourth Thursdays) and extra meetings are scheduled as necessary. 

Applications are due by 4 p.m. Friday, Jan.11.   Applicants must be available Jan. 14 - Jan. 17 for an interview.

We're Hiring: Human Resources Analyst & Operations Project Manager

Do you enjoy helping people? Can you meet deadlines and work with many interruptions?  The Executive Department is looking for a Human Resources Analyst to join the team. This is a part-time position (20 hours per week). The primary duties include providing information to employees and job candidates and serving as the Civil Service Secretary/Chief Examiner.

The Operations and Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department is seeking an  Operations Project Manager. The ideal candidate for this position has experience in program development, and management and administration of public works repair and maintenance projects.
 
The cutoff for first review of applications is Jan. 10, 2019. The positions are open until filled.

COBI Welcomes New Staff

Please help us welcome new staff to our team.

Ofc. Charlie  McCarty joined the BIPD earlier this year. He previously worked as a deputy in Jefferson County for 17 years.  In addition to patrol duty, he was also a Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, Women's Self-Defense Instructor (RAD), Active Shooter Response Instructor, Blue Courage Instructor, Search & Rescue Coordinator and a team member of a Tactical Response Unit. Ofc. McCarty enjoys camping, hiking, fishing, mud runs with his wife, mountain biking, coaching local youth sports and spending time with his three children.


Aaron Pool  was hired in December as the Code Compliance Officer in Planning and Community Development. Pool joins us from Palm Bay, Florida where he worked as the City's Code Compliance Manager during the past four years. Pool served in the U.S. Coast Guard and received his Juris Doctor degree at Southern Illinois University School of Law.

Christmas Tree Recycling: Drop-off Locations 

There are a few options to recycle your Christmas tree after the holiday if you don't have curbside composting service. 

Please remove all decorations and tree stands before recycling. The trees must be unflocked to avoid the risk of adding harmful chemicals to the soil and mulch products.

There are two locations on Bainbridge Island to recycle:
  • Bainbridge Island Transfer Station, located at 7215 NE Vincent Rd, 206-842-0962, $5/tree
  • Tilz Soils & Compost, located at 12112 Miller Rd NE 206-842-4045, $1/tree
